Is FAMU's Willie Simmons coming back to the Swac?

There is a offer on the table for Willie Simmons to become a position coach at South Carolina. The pay is higher than what he is getting as a head coach at a HBCU. Will he bolt for this job or stay at FAMU and continue the journey.
 



Tough question. The answer depends on whether he wants the autonomy of his own program versus limited financial security offered by USC. He may have success at USC. If an offer has been made to him, l say he’ll take a chance.
 
I think he should stay, but the money may be too much to overlook. 2-3 years down the road his coaching resume would still get him a HBCU head coaching job.
 
once you get a P5 job, you will always have a job. Even if he gets fired in 3 years with the coach.... SOMEBODY will pick him up. Ive seen alot of dead end HBCU coaches.
 
Shotgun, may reload elsewhere and not the SWAC, more money and less headache he may bolt for that

You would think USC would be where Clemson is because USC has more blacks and is in a blacker city. I personally believe Clemson is doing some illegal stuff to land these top black players and USC would never not be in the "hot seat" in a super competitive conference like the SEC. He'll be fired in 2 or 3 years if not before. Longevitiy and possibly less stress is at FAMU ... he should stay.

Depending on the difference in pay from FAMU and SC, he could lose the SC job and still have two or three times more money than he would have had coaching FAMU. These decisions have little to do with loyalty to anyone; it is about financial security in a volatile profession. Heck, he could lose the FAMU job just as easily as the SC job.

Difference is he can win at Famu. There will be no winning going on long term in Columbia, or the sec for that matter until nick hangs it up. That's the problem with superconferences. 1 winner, 13 losers. there are only 4 teams in the country that can count themselves winners of the conference realignment from a few years ago. bama, clemson, ohio state, oklahoma. everyone else is an afterthought with a continuous churn of coaches, trying to break into that group of 4.
At Famu he can win as the head man because the lead alcorn has is not insurmountable, and jsu isn't established. he controls that. at south carolina ... well, if he wants that Tee Martin life he should go for it.

How does this relate to Tee Martin. SC is coming for him. And he would get 400k plus. He could always come back to HBCU football

Guess you think it was dumb for Jerry Mack to leave Rice to become the OC for 220k to 400K
 
What would you all do??? If given the opportunity. I would take the money because as someone else stated, you can always get a job, if you have coached in Power 5. Bank the money and if something happens, you have the money and can set back and wait on the next opportunity without worrying about just having to have a job.

all depends on what your goals are. I don't know jerry mack but I do see he wasn't hired to be a running backs coach, but an offensive coordinator. OCs get hired to be head coaches. Running back coaches do not. I see it relating to tee like this... don't give up control of your own destiny to become a position coach. just my opinion.
