They really need to move the FCS Championship Game to a better venue. A move to Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas or even San Antonio might bring more excitement to the game. It's really a shame that good college football is being drowned out at this time of year. The FCS title games are always a showcase of good college football. It is always a better game than most of the lower FBS- Taco Bell Bowls that we are forced to watch.


Anyway, this game could be a good story in hands for NDSU if they can pull off the title with a first year head coach. They lost plenty of talent from last year's team. Craig Bohl left the Bison to become the coach at Wyoming. I remember trying to tell some clowns around here that Illinois State was the real deal and Valley shouldn't have taken that lost too hard. Here they are in a national title game.

A good team or just having one is one thing. A good program is another. NDSU has an excellent program. Consider that they lost 20 seniors. ISU was their equal or almost their equal if you consider that the Bison won by two.

We will see how much of a draw this game really is when NDSU is not in the game. They had an estimated 17K of the 20K people in the stadium


That QB from ISU is a beast (Valley saw him first hand this season). NDSU showed what champions are made of with that last drive...

I think that there were more ISU fans than that at the game. They were allotted 2800 tickets, and others could be bought through StubHub. For the 2010 season Eastern Washington defeated Delaware, and that was well attended.

Consider how far NDSU is from Frisco, Texas, and I have an idea about the travel by car. I have traveled by car from each Texas and Louisiana to Minneapolis.

Move it based on what? They've had crowds of over 20K for the past 3 or 4 years.

The venue they are playing in right now is only 10 years old and is state-of-the-art compared to where it was played in Chattanooga. The final year of the contract for the game to be played in Frisco is next year.

For the schools participating there is tremendous amount of excitement, and a bigger city doesnt mean that the game will be anymore excitement.

Based on popularity, and excitement. Yes, the numbers are "ok" for a FCS game, but they aren't "National Championship" numbers. Some folks don't believe a FCS National Championship Game can draw 40k or more, but I do. SWAC fans of all people know that FCS schools can draw bigger numbers if the event is worth it.

I feel that the FCS Championship would be a bigger event if it was an actual bowl game in a major city. If the NCAA really promoted the event, it would be a big deal. I have always believed that one of these Godaddy/Camellia/Beef O Brady/Taxslayers/Credit Union type bowl games would draw more national attention and better numbers if they would to shoot for hosting the FCS National Championship Game instead of matching up 6-6 vs 7-5 Sun Belt, CUSA and MAC teams. I am 100% sure that a minor bowl like the Heart of Dallas Bowl" could draw more than 40k and bigger TV ratings if it hosted this game and the FCS National Championship Game was promoted well.

If promoted correctly, the numbers would be much better. There is no question that students and fans of the participating schools will travel to the game. There are plenty 3 and 2 star high school recruits, JUCO coaches/recruits and plain college football fans what would attend this event if a major city in the Southern Region would host it. I believe that this game could easily host over 40k every year and even more if a regional FCS team made it to the title game.

what makes it more state of the art over Finley Stadium in Chatanooga?

FCS football will never be to the level of the National Championship game I dont care who is in it...A packed stadium is a packed stadium no matter who is in it. Do u think that the FCS National Championship Game could sellout tickets and have the commercial appeal with Indiana State vs NDSU or any other FCS PROGRAM. There is alot of money that we cant even begin to think of compared to FBS/Power 5 programs....And I know we like to say loosely if promoted right but the truth is the public doesnt care about the small FCS programs like the Power 5 schools...
 
The NCAA is not going to do anything to take away from the "major" bowls and now the championship game. This game was meant to appease not compete with fbs bowl games.

I hear ya, but I think 30- 50k in the Alamodome, NRG Stadium, Superdome, Cowboys Stadium, Georgia Dome or Sun Life Stadium at a good 7:00pm Saturday or Friday night in the the first or second week on January will take the "high school atmosphere" away from this game. The schools will travel, the fans will travel, and folks will pay attention.

Some of you are stuck on what you are seeing from the playoffs because of how it has been promoted. The telecast and promo might give a "high schoolish" appearance, but it can be improved.

You took the words out of my mouth.


If they really wanted to do it, they could simply promote it as "Settling it on the field. Like we've always done" or something catchy it like that. It might could pull in a few more eyeballs on TV and a few locals. But they (the NCAA) are not going to do it to rub the P5 the wrong way.

Plus like I said before, let's see how this game does when NDSU is not in the game (which might be for a while with their QB having another couple of years) and their fan base that will travel. Let's see if New Hampsire and Eastern Washington can put 20K in that stadium

P.S. They have bumped the D2 and D3 title games to ESPNU because of all these extra bowl games.

50,000 people are not going to watch two no-name FCS schools play, especially in Miami where the fans don't even show up for Hurricanes games.

You think a school like NDSU is no name school? There is a FCS world outside of the SWAC and MEAC. You let school like Montana, James Madison, Youngstown State, Delaware, Northern Iowa, Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky, Sam Houston, McNesse, Southeastern La, Coastal Carolina or Chattanooga make it to the FCS Championship Game in those areas and watch just wow many people show up for the game.
 
FCS conferences should just do what the MEAC and SWAC is doing and create a bowl game between conferences. There was a time I was all for FCS plsyoffs but at the end of the day it is a pure waste of resources.

Since the SWAC and MEAC are going back to a bowl format this could be great for both conferences. If the right sponsors are in place this could be major.

No, its just that some of us have years of data to support the argument that the NCAA FCS playoffs (in general) simply do not outdraw FBS bowl games. The NCAA isn't going to overspend for bigger venues when there is no justification for it. And the game will be played at a time that ESPN sees fit for it to be played.

Actually, that was a bad choice of words. But it is a fairly new facility and the location is ideal considering the number of shops and restaurants that are located nearby...as well as being minutes away from Dallas. There is plenty to do.
