SU Jags!!!
:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: Yesterday I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I am trying to find out any and all info on this autoimmune disorder. I can't see my doctor until Monday. He will then discuss it with me and refer me to an endocrinologist.

Does anyone have any inside info on this disorder? Please keep me in your prayers. :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Hashimoto's thyoiditis

Hashimoto's thyoiditis is a common thyroid disorder that can occur at any age. the incidence of this disease is 1 in 10,000 people and is most commonly observed in the middle aged women. The onset of the disease is slow and is associated with a slow increase in the size of the thyroid gland and its chronic destruction. The etiology of this disorder is poorly understood, however, it is thought that this disease has an autoimmune origin. Hashimoto's thyroiditis may be associated with other autoimmune endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus, Addison's disease, hypoparathyroidism, hypopituitarism, Graves' disease, and vitiligo. The thyroid gland involved by the Hashimoto's disease is infiltrated by lymphoid cells, some of which form germinal centers.

I hope you get well

Sorry to hear this Trina. I've never heard of the disease/disorder but my prayers are with you also.

Let me know if you need anything.

Although I had never heard of this particular type of thyroiditus, I wish you well in your treatment and management of this disorder....

I don't know what that is, but reading about it sure explains a lot. I hope you feel better, Miss! I'll be praying for you!

;)

Thanks everybody. I've been on the net all morning gathering info so I can ask the correct questions.

And to think Nita, you thought all these ailments I've had for the past year were a figment of my imagination.

Wanda, I'll call you this weekend.

Hey hang in there... I also have a autoimmune disorder, it's called polyarteritis nodosa. I know what it's like to go into something like this, you just have to pray about it.

A prayer just went up for you........May the blessings fall down all around you.....

Keep us informed. I've never heard of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but you've educated me (and probably all of us).......

Katrina, keep your head up. You're gonna be ok. I have some cousins who have thyroid problems. The thyroid is at the base of your neck under your chin closest to the chest area. It is a gland. I just gave blood for my annual physical and my doctor wanted a thyroid test done on my blood due to hair loss, rapid weight gain/loss. Thankfully, my thyroid levels were in range.

However, on to my cousins and how they handle this condition.
One of them has to take this medication, the name of which escapes me, every day. It is a very tiny pill and it helps to regulate some levels in the body which either contribute to or exacerbate (sp?) the thyroid gland. My cousin was told to maintain her weight and under no condition stop taking that pill.

My other cousin, her younger sister, had to undergo radiation treatment. She was not allowed to go home to her husband or come in close contact with other humans for 72 hours. This allowed the affects of the radiation to wear off. She had to stay in a hotel away from people. You know the insurances don't allow you to stay in the hospital for no length of time. She then has to take some medication as well. She is not allowed to get pregnant for two years after having the radiation treatment.

Sister, if God has anything to do with you, you will be alright. I will definitely say a prayer for you.

Thanks Kema. I keep calling the doctor's office every hour. The nurse just told me to QUIT worrying....and QUIT calling every hour. :lmao: (She and I are cool.)

I have claimed this victory and it shall be mine. ;) ;)

I SORRY TO HERE YOUR NOT FEELING WELL, BUT I HOPE YOU GET BETTER. WHEN I WAS ABOUT SEVEN I THINK, I HAD AN ENLARGED THYROID GLAND, THE DOCTOR PRESCRIBED MEDICATION FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS UNFORTUNATELY IT DIDN'T GO AWAY, SO WHEN I WAS NINE I HAD AN OPERATION TO REMOVE THE ABNORMAL GROWTH OF MY THYROID. THE PROCEDURE WAS VERY SIMPLE, I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL THAT MORNING THEY DID THE PROCEDURE AND I WENT HOME THE SAME DAY. THE DOCTORS WERE AMAZED THAT I TOOK IT SO EASILY. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAMETHING YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, BUT BEFORE MY OPERATION I FOUND IT HARD TO SWALLOW, AND HAD TROUBLE KEEPING FOOD DOWN. I ONLY SIDE EFFECTS WERE I COULDN'T TALK FOR A FEW DAYS, LOTS OF ICE CREAM, AND A SCARE ACROSS MY NECK ABOUT FIVE INCHES LONG. I HOPE YOU GET BETTER, MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO YOU.

I don't have to say much, you are already beginning to defeat it. God bless.

mrnutthova, you just made me realize ANOTHER symptom that I have....inability to keep food down. I was taking Prilosec for reflux. :bawling: :bawling:

Please, no more stories about surgery, radiation, etc. My nerves can't take it anymore.

Dang Homie

I need to talk to you about the food thing and taking Priolsec. I took it for about three years, had surgery in September and have not any problems since. I'll call you this weekend.

Take Care.

God bless you and keep you!

It's good you have a great relationship with your doctor and his staff. My advice to you is to be PROACTIVE about your condition and get at least 2 more medical opinions so that you will feel secure in your diagnosis and prognosis and treatment.

And of course the most important advice is the LET GO AND LET GOD!

Circumstances don't dictate what happens, WHOSE you are determines everything. We belong to God. Thank you Jesus!

The healing angels are already there for you!

I wish you well in all of your present and future endeavors as you surpass this latest of GOD'S tests.

Peace and Blessings manifest!!

Kellis, I know it is easy for me to say and tell you not to worry about it. But keep your head up and work real close with your Doctors. Don't hold back any information. Sometimes the smallest things that may not seem important is very important to the Dr. How you feel better after your visit.
