But did anyone see Deliver Us From Eva? Your thoughts? I thought it to be a wholesome passtime movie.

Unfortunately, critics love to see us in the Ghetto light:

How about delivering us from this movie? In this extremely straightforward (read boring) retelling of Taming of the Shrew, Deliver takes a crackling, mouthy female lead and turns her into a meek, contrite kitten. And that's a shame, because the first 20 minutes of this movie are on fire, as Eva (Gabrielle Union) verbally eviscerates every person who crosses her path. She's good when she's bad, and Union is hilarious, a joy to watch. Then along comes LL Cool J, who romances her, softens her and turns the movie into a lame romantic comedy. By the film's end, he has her actually apologizing to everyone for her razor-sharp tongue. So, just imagine a movie where the most interesting person gets the life stomped out of them. Then imagine the movie telling you to be happy about that. That's this movie. Return it to sender, please.

I saw it this past weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll add it to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Anybody that knows me, know I'm real skeptical when it comes to these black love/comedies, and I usually don't see them, but I saw it, and thought it was a pleasant surprise.

It was okay. It reminded me of myself in some ways, ~snicker~. I really just wanted to tell her to "shut up" after a couple of lines, but it was only a movie.

ike D-Icon....I am never surre about some of the "black" movies when they come out. But I actually liked this one. The fact that I was excpecting it to be horrible, because they kept saying it was by the same writers and producers as The Brothers which we all know was one horrible movie, and I still liked Eva sais alot about the movie.

I thought that it was a pretty good movie, though it wasn't as good as The Best Man, The Wood, Love & Basketball or Brown Sugar.

I love romance/comedies.

CriTAUcal, please. You're talking about 4 movies in which 2 pair of them were pretty much the same, and with some of the same people casted in each.

If you take the hip hop, and replace the basketball in "Love & Basketball" you have "Brown Sugar", and vice versa. Taye Diggs just substituted for Omar Epps.

One thing I truly found refreshing about "Deliver Us From Eva", was that there was no Morris Chestnut. Without the change in professions in his movies, he's basically the same character in all of them.

That dude is slowly turning into Billy D. Williams, I just hope he's not stuck making Malt Liquor commercials, when these love stories are finished with him. It would be a shame seeing the brother pedaling Olde Engish 800, the way Billy D sold that Colt 45.
