How the Legacy Bowl could ruin SC State Football

Re: Alumni roars while S.C. State still silent

That's the difference between us and your weak azz...Coach Pough has built a program....You guys have nice team....You see w/ a program...we don't rebuild..we reload.... You see w/ you team...well you know the rest...

Dude, how many games has Pough won that's relevant? Zero, that's how many. It amazes me how you guys think that you're the world's best thing since sliced bread, yet you're not that good. If you're good, then we'll give you that credit, but you're not. You had two decent seasons, but two decent seasons doesn't make a tradition.

It's one thing to be confident, but it's another thing to blatantly lie about your history, something South Carolina State hasn't had much of in football. Two of the last four years, your record was a measley 7-4 and 7-4. How is that great?:noidea:

I'll tell you what...I will put our record the last 4 years up against yours any day... Bet?

Sounds like you just proved his point that you have no football tradition.

Let's see...we have 12 outright MEAC Championships and you all have 11 outright SWAC championships....It seems to me we have a pretty good tradition.

Four years? What can four short years tell anybody about the quality of a program? Not much at all.

I'll try this one more time. What team of significant quality has Pough beaten? Again I say, nobody. You struggled to beat a below average Grambling team last year, yet you're complaining and putting Pough on this mythical pedestal?

Why don't you play a home and home series against those FCS schools I mentioned earlier instead of playing the likes of Benedict? You beat them, then you'll get the credit you deserve. Beating the likes of Morgan State and Bethune Cookman year in and year out isn't all that impressive.

I'm sorry did you say that you had 15 championship, a 6-7 Bowl record and 1-4 Bowl record against the SWAC and that we had 20 championships, a 8-3 Bowl record and 5-2 Bowl record vs the MEAC?

Oh yeah you thumping your chest about those Co-championships.....Go right ahead bruh...Do your thang.......And I said once before what have you done lately...

I will say this on the real...You all have a great program and you gave us the business in the past....In 94 when you beat us 11-0...that game wasn't even close...from what I saw you all could have competed in the FCS playoffs and made some serious noise.....But you all are content to just compete in the confines of the SWAC....FYI , there is a big world outside of the SWAC and we plan to be part of it or die trying....Nobody can ever say we didn't give it our all in trying to compete on a national level...

Will they be able to say the same about Southern?

And I'm gone, alright, alright, alright.......

Re: Alumni roars while S.C. State still silent

South Carolina State hasn't been relevant in football until two years ago, now suddenly they think their world beaters? When the current class graduates in a year or two, they'll be just like they were three years ago....irrelevant.

JayRob,

They only came up because Hampton and Del State fell off. They won't even make the playoffs this year. Their star players are gone...oh well. At least they ALMOST won a playoff game.

Dude, competing in the playoffs IS NOT competing on a national level. You already have non-conference games. Why do you need the playoffs?

Frat,

If that's the case, why don't yall attempt to compete on a National Level during the regular season? Two of your 3 non-conference games are against Ms Valley (SWAC-HBCU) and Benedict College (SIAC-HBCU). The puzzling thing about Benedict is that they are D2 and you're travelling to them... There were no PWC FCS programs that would give you a game in the regular season? Villanova is the defending National Champ...did yall contact them? What about Montana? Isn't Furman and those other schools in SC State worthy of showing you're competing outside of HBCU ball? :noidea::noidea:

Help me to understand!

The MEAC has owned the SWAC in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge....In head 2 head meeting since 2005 we are 4-1....

This is a what have you done for me lately world......And you all haven't done $hit against us lately.....

That is becasue of the matchups. The only fair matchups. I would give the MEAC a slight edge in Hampton beating JSU and SCState beating Grambling while SU beat FAMU. The other games were total mismatches. When the Legacy Bowl begins and our champ meets your champ, your azz is grazz. The MEAC champ has a long history of losing to the SWAC champ.

I think you just closed this case...

You were a very poor advocate for the devil..

How so???? You think the quality of football being played in either the SWAC or MEAC is on par with, say, the CAA or the Atlantic 10?

Right now neither of our conferences have room to say much of anything about each other until the quality of the on-field product improves...Visions of grandeur aside, I can see how the SC State folks would want to still do the playoff thing because playing for a chance to win a National Championship. That's the sort of thing that normal football programs use to market and sell to the kids they're trying to recruit.

Does that make them better than everybody else? No, but it does say that the folks in charge there are more worried about making their football program viable against all competition, not just the SWAC or MEAC.

In the meantime, how many of our programs have done the things necessary to win at this level, regardless of the competition?

Not many...Those that have been able to win within our conferences tend to get smoked in head-to-head matchups. it it wrong to want to beat folks outside of our own?

Not at all, last I look though tradition wasn't built on four recent years, that's what kids do to try and get one up because they know in the big scheme of things they have none.

As for what "WE" plan on doing as you put it, clearly you're another one of these delusion MEAC poster who actually think you run something because you buy a five dollar ticket.

As I said before I wish all of you that wish to leave the MEAC leave. You have just as much right to succeed as TNSU and if you die trying I'll be at the funeral.

That's why you schedule them during the regular season and beat them then. There's no need to lose money in these tough economic times, especially when other sports programs are threatening to be dismantled. It makes no "cents".

Play these teams during the regular season, beat them and there goes your argument. Then make thousands of dollars at the end of the season with a nationally televised, all expenses paid game between two quality teams and bands with NO cost to the SWAC or MEAC.

EXACTLY! WE (the SWAC) did that in the early 90's and have gotten away from that. I can't remember a specific time when the MEAC has actively done this. And on the whole, they aren't even going to attempt it this year. I believe half of their teams do not have ONE FCS PWC on the schedule, but they will say they are trying to compete nationally.

It's like Jim Jones has taken over MEAC fans minds .... you are competing nationally, even though you are playing Benedict, SSU, and NCCU. You are competing nationally, even though you are giving up the ass to Clemson and Miami, who you are in NO competition with.

Jay,

that would be fine, except that OUR schools are more likely to pick one of the following:

1) A "cashcow" game against a FBS opponent during the regular season. We get our brains beat in, but hey...it's a paycheck.

2) We schedule D2 opponents in OC games (the non-HBCU squads we struggle to beat).

The few times we DO schedule folks on the FCS level during the regular season, we get worked. The last time I checked, that ain't the best thing in the world in terms of recruiting and marketing our respective programs.

We're talking about losing money, but if our programs (and support systems that go along with them) were organized the way they're supposed to be to generate revenue, we wouldn't be living game check to game check...

How many of our programs have organized boosters and fundraising entities that actually do their job? If they are doing it, how are those proceeds being utilized by the AD's that recieve them? The bottom line is that ALL of those factors, as well as coaching, recruiting, etc, contribute to the product thats on the field.

If the quality of play is still poor, playing PWC's during the regular season to give whatever Bowl we have amongst ourselves legitimacy will be a bit moot.

I agree dawg ....we need to play more SoCon /Big South folks during the regular season....It's not because we haven't tried...We tried to get Wofford this coming season...but they didn't want to play fare...We have tried to get CCU the last few years but they have their schedule planned out far in advance...and that's the case w/ a lot of folks....We also tried to get Elon this year but our schedule wouldn't synch up....Throw in the fact that we have an AD who couldn't negotiate her way out of a paper bag and u have a hard situation......

We are trying....I also think certain teams don't want a piece of us right now....
