How the Legacy Bowl could ruin SC State Football

Exactly. You know, I know, they know, and everybody knows that they are gonna stay their arses right there in the MEAC.

Those teams won't even schedule a game against them...who really expects them to bring them into their conference.

I say let's all support SCSU and FAMU to move out of the MEAC and take their dominant football programs to a new playoff-contending conference. I mean clearly such dominant programs would have no trouble going undefeated in the SWAC and MEAC since they are national title contenders, might as well move on.

The NCAA and FCS are missing an opportunity...

ESPN is offering the SWAC/MEAC $1.5 per league to televise one game, yet the NCAA can't negotiate a $1.5 deal for the entire playoff package.

If the SWAC/MEAC has that much appeal to ESPN, the NCAA would be business saavy to push back the start of the playoffs to get the SWAC back involved.

:noidea:

I fixed it for you

Interesting thread...

Lemme play Devil's Advocate for a minute...Having our own thing is great in terms of revenue; The Legacy Bowl is great for the folks that actually participate in it (MEAC or SWAC). What exactly does it mean (from a fiscal and competitive standpoint) for Black College Football collectively?

In order to have our 'own thing' and have it actually be a viable competitor to the NCAA playoffs in terms of credibility, the product on the field has to be up to snuff.

Right now, black college football as a collective is piss-poor as far as the on-field product is concerned. We sit here and argue about which conference is sellin' out, but the REALITY is that BOTH conferences (save a few seasons here and there from a select few teams) DO NOT win (in some cases, even compete) on a consistent basis with programs outside of HBCU football that are supposed to be on the same divisional level as far as talent and resources go. That's the underlying problem here and it frankly makes all of the MEAC vs. SWAC foolishness moot.

In order for this trend to change, BOTH conference have to get their respective schools to be serious in terms of making our programs competitive. That means marketing our programs correctly; it means getting people into leadership positions that know how to maximize resources.

Most importantly, we've got to get AD's and coaches into our conferences that are committed to building and winning against everybody, not just their own inner circle of football programs...That means recruiting and selling the school and program. Kids like playing against the best competition possible. If you'r going to have an event thats going to directly compete with a National Championship, you best have a plan in place to attract the best talent possible and sell them on the HBCU concept in order to make that happen.

So far, we've failed miserably at it. Playing the PWC's in order to grow our own brand is fine, as long as you have the means to put a comparable or superior product on the field...Right now neither conference is doing that.

Alumni roars while S.C. State still silent

By THOMAS GRANT JR. T&D Senior Sports Writer | Posted: Tuesday, July 20, 2010 8:11 pm

It’s been over a week since South Carolina State University gave its official ‘response’ to the Legacy Bowl speculation.

Since releasing a statement which, for the most part, came across as political in stating both arguments about the proposed contest pitting the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Southwestern Athletic Conference champions without taking a side, the administration has kept a silent, low-key profile.

From a public relations standpoint, it appears school and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference commissioner Dennis Thomas still don’t get it. If the goal was to placate the fears of Bulldog nation about taking away an opportunity to participate in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, then to quote CSI Miami’s Horatio Caine “Mission Not Accomplished”.

If anything, the neutral public statement has Bulldog fans “howling” at the moon. The various websites like scstatefans.com, meacfanzone.com or onnidan.com have posts galore devoted to the controversy and the T&D mailboxes have enjoyed an high level of responses from S.C. State fans from New York to California.

South Carolina State hasn't been relevant in football until two years ago, now suddenly they think their world beaters? When the current class graduates in a year or two, they'll be just like they were three years ago....irrelevant.

Man personally I can't wait for FAMU and SCST to leave the MEAC and fall on their faces. Man FAMU will fall worst than last time. These folks will realize they are not who they think they are.

Re: Alumni roars while S.C. State still silent

The MEAC folks talk all that noise, but for some unknown reason, why can't they schedule these same teams they contemplate on playing during the playoffs, why won't they play them during the regular season?
Whose afraid of whom? If they won't play 'em during the regular season, why complain by not being able to play them in the playoffs?

There's no reason why South Carolina State, FAMU or North Carolina A&T couldn't play the likes of Appal. State, Citadel, Furman, Wofford or James Madison during the regular season for a home and home series. If they beat those teams during the regular season, THEN they'll have room to talk. Until then, they're just blowing out smoke and hot air.

No my friend, I just want you to realize that you are not who you think you are. SCST has no history of being winners. You are not world class champs like you pretend to be. Those crazy folks on AGS are making a fool out of you.

The future of the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game could be in jeopardy if the Legacy Bowl is created, commissioner Duer Sharp said Tuesday.
The Legacy Bowl, which would feature the top teams from the SWAC and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in December, has been talked about between the two leagues. It would be similar to the Heritage Bowl, which played out a few years ago after experiencing financial problems.
"It all depends on what happens with the Legacy Bowl," Sharp said. "I'll leave that up to the presidents. If you have the Legacy Bowl, do you need to play a SWAC championship? When you're playing a game that close to the Legacy Bowl championship, then you have the risk of injury.
"I don't know what the membership is going to do. Some may say we still want it and some may say do away with it."
Sharp said the SWAC is committed to the Legacy Bowl, while he said MEAC officials are slated to make a decision in the next two weeks.

They are only competitive in football in their conference, what about their other sports? Never have I seen a group of people that take an "almost" win and try to play it up like they are on a higher level than us. If that's the case, then SCSU should have destroyed Grambling in Orlando.

STFU and talk what you know...We have dominated the MEAC in Mens/Womens Tennis...Our Soccer team is on the rise...Our Mens BB team is on the rise.....

As for destroying Grambling....well Grambling faced a team that had only been together for 4 weeks w/o any summer conditioning.....we lost our starting QB and RB....and they still didn't have the nuts to take the W....

And after all that doing the SWAC worse years you're still our bitches.

So what's your point?

That's the difference between us and your weak azz...Coach Pough has built a program....You guys have nice team....You see w/ a program...we don't rebuild..we reload.... You see w/ you team...well you know the rest...
