How the Legacy Bowl could ruin SC State Football

Bruh, let me remind you of something. Southern built their rep in the late 90's by going to the Heritage Bowl. JSU would win the SWAC or go 9-3 and go go the playoffs as an at-large team and get NO RESPECT. Yet, SU would go to the Heritage Bowl and look like the best team in BCF. No one cares about the playoffs. JSU has been there and done that! We were better than some of those playoff teams but we were not better than the top 4..which we always had to play. You all act like SCState is on to something because they ALMOST won a playoff game. In JSU's last playoff game, we ALMOST won too. That got us nothing. All it got us was SU going to the HB and looking like world beaters.

We did a pretty good job of kicking y'all asses too.

If those schools feel that strongly then they should simply seek talks (collectively) to be part of an expansion into one of the existing FCS playoff participating conference.

These MEAC folks act like they are actually being competitive in the playoffs. NOT!!

I can understand the desire to compete for the National title but what the MEAC folks fail to realize is that the advantage is actually in our corner. We have the best attended games and I feel that the Legacy Bowl can and will out draw the FCS Championship game. If we do that and can schedule and beat a PWC FCS school or two during the season. It would make the playoffs look like a joke.

JROCK, SCTATE is 2-2 vs JSU.

1991 JSU won 17-6 (not sure where)
1992 We tore them out the frame...41-3 (not sure where)
1993 They squeeked by us in Indy 34-33
1994 They beat us on their home field 26-22

I really don't care about the South Carolina State, FAMU, and the other MEAC crybabies, if they don't want in the deal, then either find a new conference, or shut up. I am still trying to figure out all this big talk about SCSU and FAMU trying to act like they are going to leave the MEAC. They are only competitive in football in their conference, what about their other sports? Never have I seen a group of people that take an "almost" win and try to play it up like they are on a higher level than us. If that's the case, then SCSU should have destroyed Grambling in Orlando.

Another thing, those Southern Conference and Big South people only want you because they think your football team/band might bring them some more money, not because they think you would be a competitive asset to their conference.

So true, when we played Texas State, their fans couldn't wait to see the Ocean of Soul err.... I mean the Texas Southern Tigers roll into town. That's all they talked about on their message boards.

Oh, yeah TT is still sad.

S.C. State football should not give up shot at national title

ISSUE: Legacy Bowl
OUR VIEW: Game between black conference champs too costly
South Carolina State University leadership and coaches over the years have found themselves answering questions about why the school does not move away from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and into competition with in-state and neighboring schools in a league such as the Southern.
Proponents site natural rivals such as Citadel, Furman and Georgia Southern, all of whom the Bulldogs have faced. But the games are not conference contests.
S.C. State can make a strong case that staying in the MEAC is about history, preserving a conference made up of historically black colleges and universities. The history of "black college football" is rich, and S.C. State has been a key player in that history. A move away from the MEAC could lead to disintegration of the conference.
As much as black college football remains alive in the form of the MEAC and the Southwestern Athletic Conference, there is far more to the season today than just games with conference opponents. All games are important in building a national ranking that can produce a berth in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs and a chance to compete for a national championship.
In the case of S.C. State, winning the conference is important, too, because the MEAC title carries with it an automatic berth in the playoffs. The SWAC champion does not have the same status as the conference lost its automatic bid.
With ESPN interested in airing the game, talk among schools in both conferences has begun about renewing a black college football national championship that would feature the winners of each conference in a game on Dec. 17, 2011. The game would be called the Legacy Bowl. It would be a renewal of the Heritage Bowl, which ran from 1991-99.
Each conference would be guaranteed $1.5 million. Who would get what and how much are question marks.
But there is a price to be paid if the MEAC decides to go the Legacy Bowl route. The conference would lose its bid to the FCS playoffs and a shot at an NCAA football national championship.

My question is how will they compete in other sports VS competition other than current MEAC participants if they moved. Then, once the football team goes through a dry spell in football, attendance drops, then what?

Exactly. You know, I know, they know, and everybody knows that they are gonna stay their arses right there in the MEAC.
