PVAMU is mostly known for the longest losing streak ever. But the Panthers also serve as an example for how to move forward.

In the biggest game of his life, K.J. Black played an almost perfect second half. He completed eight of 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns and led three scoring drives in three tries. Down 14-10 at halftime, Black and company came back to win, 30-24.

In a lot of ways, this was the perfect conference title game: back-and-forth and intense, with the crowd to match. It was also cold.

"It was sleeting, below freezing," he recalls. "It wasn’t fun to be in the game, but once you got past that, it was just football."

It wasn’t just football. It was the 2009 SWAC Championship. And he was the quarterback of a team known for never, ever winning.

You're absolutely right... There are some many things in here we've been preaching to people for years regarding our situation and how 0-80 happened. No one wanted to listen.

what gets lost is that 2001 team that won 3 games...that was the best 3-win team I ever saw....especially when they had SU down in the 4th quarter at Mumford....

I was living in Lafayette and drove over for the game. We were giving them hell in the stands. Nice read.

Whatever the Panthers accomplish, they will do it on the backs of the players who were getting beaten up in the 1990s, playing just for the sake of playing.

And that's why the 0-80 smack really just doesn't phase me.

In June, the Houston Chronicle reported more than $100,000 was missing from athletic department coffers. Indictments followed; among those indicted: Catchings."


I remember when this went down. A former PV athlete and now retired HISD coach told me everybody (in the administration) was driving Cadillacs around campus from there "new found" wealth. LOL

The O-N-L-Y thing I remember vividly about that losing streak was how so many made jokes/fun of our situation, which was quite perilous, considering what our school and its officials aided in creating this historic conference. It was no secret the fiscal malfeasance that was occurring coupled w/ the TAMUS continued tightening (thank gawd!) the choke-hold on fiscal accountability and accounting on campus. ::read:: The jokes/laughter would start 15:00 first quarter and wouldn't stop until 00:00 4th quarter. I sat through 54 of those bad boys along w/ numerous others from start to finish as I continued to study our problem. A lot of folks called me crazy for sitting in the rain/cold weather for four full quarters "watching a loser getting blown out."

Crazy should not ever be confused w/ undying loyalty.

Fall 1993 @ the SFC as the announcer went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in on us w/ negative jibberish.

I remember it VIVIDLY as that was the first and last SFC I invited my then 1.2 year married wife to. That numbskull started cheering for Grambling and I asked her as quietly as I could "WTF is wrong w/ you... The PV degree pays for your lavish lifestyle. We cheer for PV; no one else except Ohio St or Howard. Shit. " Very, VERY classy move on the mic.
