I've noticed over the years since graduating from undergrad/grad school, that the HC crowd that I knew has definitely dwindled. Now that I'm back in the vicinity of my undergrad alma mater, I regularly go back for HC, games and I'm telling you, sometimes I'm walking around campus like a ghost. It's like a dream; I'm just there observing another world. It's all good when I go to the Band Cottage and visit with the band director or see 1 or 2 teachers that taught me while I was there,,, but other than that, there's definitely a generation thing going on.

As the years since graduation add up, I find more and more that homecomings are basically reunions with a core crew that I bonded with while at both institutions. We basically arrive and hang out at a few key events and hang out in one of our hotel rooms where most of the bonding, story telling/rehashing of ole memories, etc, takes place. We usually get an average of 2 or 3 hours sleep per night the whole time.

I find now that many of the crew have gone by the wayside and HC visits are less frequent or non-existant. How many of you still go back to your undergrad/grad institutions religiously?
 



What do you define an ol' head as because I know of students that entered Prairie View before me and still have yet to graduate and they have not taken any time off. :(

Oh come now Unknown1; i'm not quite there yet, but it's ole heads dat be organizing dem bus loads of high schoolers & supporters to the HBCU homecomings. How you gonna play us? Besides, we incognito at HC; our highlight, other than posting up LATE (around halftime) at the game, is getting in 18 the Friday of HC!

Anyway, on to the definition of "ole heads"; that would be anyone who is more than a year out of college who has or has not been back for their first homecoming post-college while in the work/married-single life world (esp. five years or more removed).

ASU's Homecoming is different than any other school. 1)It's always on Thanksgiving and 2)It's always against Skegee, our rival 30 minutes down the road

Since I graduated, I definitely try not to miss Homecoming. Seeing old friends, reliving the good times, and going back "Home". Each year, I always see somebody who I haven't seen since we were in school. The parties and reunions (Wednesday night before Homecoming) at the downtown hotels can't be beat. The Magic City Classic has a party atmosphere, but for me, Homecoming is just different. I love it!!!
After the game (win, lose, or draw), the yard comes alive w/ Greeks everywhere-stepping, chanting, hanging out

btw, I agree about the generation thing. Last year, I got to Montgomery early enough to hang out on the yard that Wednesday morning. Even though most students are already gone for the Thanksgiving break, there's still quite a few there. I just get the feeling that I'm disconnected. The yard looks basically the same as when I was a student, but it feels a whole lot different now.

Well my friend, as a SKEGEE GRAD (all other members of my family having matriculated through ASU, Mom, Pops & brother wholey, sisters partially) I feel you on the ASU homecoming. I feel like I have THREE homecomings: TU, NCA&T and Turkey Day! Having been away from the South until 1997, I have usually gotten back to TU and Turkey Day at the same time. Now that I reside in Montgomery, Turkey Day is a given before rollin' down to the Wiregrass to heckle Momz/Popz/brother (of late!)!:p

And yes, while at Skegee/NCA&T Homecomings I'm a ghost walking around campus. I didn't even hang out at NCA&T on the yard for the game & aftermath last fall; I was out getting in another 18! It was great just being back in the environment, riding around looking at all the old sights, (thanking God that it was all over, but at the same time kinda envying those experiencing what I had experienced years ago.) kicking it and reminiscing with the crew, just unwinding from the work world.

It don't get any better than this doe; living in Montgomery I have access to Skegee and I go to ASU games when Skegee is out of town. ASU Kills me because I remember all the band songs from when I faced them for 5 years as a Marching Crimson Piper and as a kid when my parents used to bring the family to the games and other ASU events. One of my sisters went to TSU and I remember when ASU played Troy State for the first time playing "Dixie" IN CRAMPTON BOWL!!!! DOOOOOH!!!

Now as I go to the games/homecoming, it is a surreal experience to be sure. I want to see an ASU vs FAMU series. That would be EPIC my friend.
 
It's been two and a half years since I graduated and I've attended every homecoming since.

It helps that I live 35 minutes from the campus. :D
 
When I first graduated I used to always go back for homecoming and meet up with my old crew. After about 5-6 years they changed a lot of the activities that used to go on during homecoming week & weekend. The administration changed and it seems like they were trying to discourage a lot of the "riff-raf" from coming to campus and disturbing the peace. While this may have discouraged that to a degree, it also discouraged some of the alumnus from coming back also. I then took a hiatus from the homecoming activities, I have gone back the last few years but so much has changed and it doesn't feel the same.
 
I was born on a Thursday, and came home from the hospital on Homecoming Saturday. That is the ONLY UAPB HOMECOMING I have ever missed! Like TBF, if I am able, I shall be there for Homecoming. Hell, we had Homecoming when we didn't have a FOOTBALL TEAM, and I was there, then! My principal ALREADY knows that I will be off a COUPLE of days in early November!
 



I haven't been to a homecoming in 3 years due to the fact that I was so far away, however this year I'm going and I can't wait to see everyone!

Changes, changes, and more changes, you can say that again Fiyah! I will not get into it too much, but the amount of vendors and (varying degrees of) paraphernalia has changed too.
 
I do have a job. I work at Gateway, meaning i'm sittin here on the computer doing nuthin. The part of town the store is on, no one ever comes in here.:emlaugh:

ASUers, you can say that again. Remember when,,

Skegee and ASU stopped playing over "issues"? Not good, but alas, somehow it got worked out. Personnally, I liked the "ole" SIAC days when it was a round-robbin for TU playing AAMU, Miles and ASU.
