How is social security an entitlement?

I've never understood why Republicans or some moderate Dems call social security an entitlement. Help me out if you think this way.

Republicans have been killing spin since the Southern Strategy. Dems are so weak they go along with any phrasing they say. They allowed the term liberal to become a dirty word. Mainly because it is easier to get everyone on the same page when everyone’s beliefs are so alike. Dems are all over the place. Therefore, a defined benefit plan style retirement is now considered an entitlement. Such silliness.

Could not have said it better myself.

It's not but those same Republicans are after Teacher Retirement as well. We as educators (at lest in Texas) do not put money into social security. We have TRS and they have been after that for years.

I know that in Louisiana where my parents taught/retired from, there wasn't SS taken out for their Parish. I am not sure if all the Parishes (County as you know it) have the same situation though.
