Tyrann Mathieu covets LSU return?

Updated: August 13, 2012, 12:36 PM ET

By Joe Schad | ESPN

Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has expressed interest in sitting out this season, enrolling in classes and hoping for a return to the program in 2013, if it can be worked out with the school, according to sources.

Mathieu was dismissed from the team Friday following failed substance-abuse tests, but he was not dismissed by the university. The possibility of reinstatement would have to be approved at many levels, including university administration as well as coach Les Miles, and it is being discussed.

See article, and roundtable video discussion below . . . .

If he does that he is stupid. They dismissed him from the team, dogged him out, then throw him a biscuit to come back. No way I would sellout like that, its too late to try to save face now LSU. I would be like thanks for the publicity but no matter where I go I will be hot and I still will make it to the NFL with or without you. Screw you now LSU, thanks I needed this hehe. That would be my feelings right there....

Who from the school dogged him out?

What student loans?

He was on an athletic scholarship and according to NCAA rules one the Registrar/Athletic Certification Officer signs that the student is no longer certified to be an athletic the scholarship is gone. So unless he has outstanding academics....student loans is what's happening.

He'll probably have Pell Grant, SEOG, and a State grant. They will find a way and he won't have much, if any, debt.

He will have a job working construction in Baton Rouge part time to pay off school...... That is what most of LSU's players do during the summer from what I understand.

Yea I fully understand that but I mean in general I dont see Les Miles going against him being kicked off indefinitely....

Miles sounded like he didn't want to kick him off in the first place. He was forced to follow the rules of the unversity.

If the head of the athletic department is ok with him returning after satisfying certain requirements, Les Miles would take him back.

That's what I think too.

Have you read the LSU message boards? If you read articles about this look towards the bottom on the comments page, plenty of LSU people dogging him out

Damn those people...he doesn't deal with them. He's concerned with Joe Alleva and the $$$ folks who call the shots say. They give him another shot and he's back with them in 2013, ready to go. Actually, I think that's his best out. Those folks might have saved his azz kicking him off. I honestly think that's the best move... or simply train and go to the league next year.

Returning to LSU football team not an option for Tyrann Mathieu, source says

A source close to dismissed LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu disputed an ESPN.com report Monday that said Mathieu was considering a return to LSU in 2013 after sitting out the 2012 season. Tyrann Mathieu says he wants to come back to LSU even if he sits out a season.
The source said remaining in Baton Rouge "wouldn't be happening" and that McNeese State, which Mathieu visited on Friday, is presently the only option for transfer.

Why?

Is that the only school LSU will release him to? If so, something's fishy about that.

Why should he go somewhere where he isn't really wanted? You think he wouldn't catch hell going back to BR? I wouldn't want to put myself in a situation like that, he needs to breathe and just start over. People already know who he is, he has nothing to lose by transferring.

Dude... if Jordan Jefferson can exist in BR, Mathieu would be welcomed back by the fans with open arms. LOL

Frat. All this was on him. It wasn't like LSU treated him like crap. He did this to himself. So he has no reason to be mad at LSU. Les Miles didn't tell him to flunk another drug test or break team rules. And he is wanted. They wanted him to play there for sure. Wasn't like they thought he was a scrub and was going to sit him down because he couldn't play. Now the fans are something different. They just ride the wave. Dude knows he messed up and that's why he is wanting back on the team. All he had to do is go to class and leave that isht he smoking or whatever he is doing alone. He put himself in this mess. LSU didn't. He would still be the star of the defense had he just did what he was supposed to. So he has no reason to be mad and want to show someone up by transferring to another school. I even think most of the LSU fans aint anti- Honey Badger. Just a few necks who say dumb isht on sports boards like they always do. I bet if they got him back for next year, they would give him a standing ovation once he hit the field. LOL. Of course if I was him, I would transfer somewhere to make an impact and head to the NFL after one season. But in all seriousness, if he wants his degree. He should try to finish at LSU if they let him. If that is important to him.
