Brandy Set to Perform at 11th Annual Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase

The 11th annual Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, presented by Verizon and official banking sponsor SunTrust Bank, will welcome celebrated actress and Grammy-winning singer Brandy to the stage as a special guest performer at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on January 26th, alongside eight of the nation’s top Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands. This year’s “House Party” theme will be brought to life with additional performances and an on-the-field fan participation dance contest.

For more information on the 2013 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, including group and individual tickets, updates, photos and video footage, and all details about the program, please visit: www.HondaBattleoftheBands.com.

In honor of this year’s “House Party” theme, the Showcase will open with a performance by American dance music singer and songwriter, Crystal Waters, popular for her dance music hits.

To keep the “party” going, there will be a dance-off between participating HBCU dance teams, whose songs were selected by fans via social media.

So is somebody declared a winner?

Nope people choose their own opinoins. Most people seemed to have picked A&T but most band boards are MEAC biased. I have only seen 4 band clips.. JSU (of course), BCU (actually my favorite HBCU band), A&T ('cause people raved on that performance), and Alcorn ('cause they are my "hometown" band). I probably won't see the rest. Of that group, I say they all took a L.

JSU had more than one mishap and didn't go for the kill. I think Taylor goes for "cute".
BCU was a huge let down for me and I really LOVE their band.
Alcorn was Alcorn and I am glad to see them going in the right direction under Murray.
...and A&T was really hot garbage but some people like what they like. People raved on SCState last year and I thought they were hot garbage too. I think it's a MEAC vs SWAC thing. MEAC bands don't drill and I personally need to see a good drill before anything else. A&T just makes a few ragged lines and stands in place and plays. SCState's drill last year was the worst one at the showcase and people let them get away with that. I wasn't even impressed with the A&T drum feature. They brought chairs out there for that?.. ok, they got two tumblers who can play drums. A&T did keep the energy going and they had the BEST announcer of the day. He was even thoughtful enough to ask the crowd for a standing ovation.

I should probably watch TNState's show. Next to Southern, I think they are the best drilling HBCU band (execution-wise) but they kill most bands in creativity.

This idea was an EPIC fail! Maybe between performances, they should let a band play a selections in the stands that their girls can dance to.

I just watched TNState. They were good. Maybe even the best. Their execution was off but that was probably due the camera angle. It's good to see a band TRY to do new things. I find that very refreshing as a lot of bands today don't even try to do anything new.
