Historic House v. NCAA Settlement gets Final Approval

Ironic timing with the Ivy League coming back to the playoffs. If they really want to they can easily outspend everyone else in FCS. Lot of kids wouldn't be able to meet the academics requirements but they could damn sure buy those that can. That's if they decide to really fund athletics.

Female athletes appeal landmark NCAA settlement, saying it violates federal antidiscrimination law

An attorney representing the athletes said in a statement that the settlement violates Title IX, the federal law that bans sex-based discrimination in education.

I wonder what ole Nick Saban is thinking. At the end of the day overly inflated salaries like his, in the revenue generating sports, and being able to move from school to school with impunity, while still under contract, is what put the spot-light on the unfairness for the student-athlete.

All twelve SWAC member institutions have opted-in to the House Settlement. Additionally, the league placed no scholarship caps on any sports in which the conference currently sponsors.

“This is undoubtedly a significant moment for the Southwestern Athletic Conference and our twelve member institutions,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland.

Looking at this from a Valley perspective...

We definitely have to remove the idiot president now because he would just shift the revenue from this (athletics) to the band like he has done the past couple of years

can he actually do that?

But they laughed at Joseph when he said that HBCUs need to add a buyout clause

Because basically that's what HBCUs have become (de facto JUCOs) so they deserve to be paid for their training and development

how does this work from school to school within the same conference? and how does this work from FCS to FBS when they take our players or when we get one of theirs?

There will only be a couple of schools that'll actually be able to take advantage of it. The ones at the bottom, already not fully funding scholarships as is... yikes.

So the SWAC is going have its own version of Have and Have Nots. It’s going be 3-5 schools winning big everyone else, Valley, PB, Alcorn, Gram, and Bethune getting dragged in football.
