Hi-Five lead singer Tony Thompson was found dead yesterday (June 1) in his hometown of Waco, Texas.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that Thompson's body was found outside of an apartment complex around 10:00 pm.

He allegedly died of drug overdose, but the cause of death has to be confirmed.

Thompson and Hi-Five hit #1 with 1990's "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)," which was produced by R&B/Hip-Hop producer Teddy Riley and taken from the group's debut, Hi-Five.

Sad news, I used to think he had a voice talented enough to make it solo. His first solo album I thought was pretty good but hard to promote because it had so many styles from different producers of that day. Still.....I hate it even more that drugs has taken the life of yet another young talented brother.

Thompson, 31, who had recently moved back to his home base in Waco after a period in Dallas, died of a drug overdose last night, a family friend told the Tribune-Herald. However, the cause of death could not be immediately confirmed.

Waco police spokesman Steve Anderson said Thompson was found a little before 9 p.m. lying beside one of the buildings at the Trendwood Apartments, 1700 Dallas Circle, a few blocks northeast of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy by Justice of the Peace Judge Kristi DeCluitt.

Hope this is not just another sad case of a drug OD.

R.I.P.

Which one of them went to JSU?

Keepitgoin.jpg

The dude on the right in the white suite. He was there my Fresman year. He drove a drop top crysler and it was red. They didn't make much loot.

Didn't he play on JSU's football team?
Yeah, I remember reading an article back around that time that it was his first love and how his father was looking foward to him getting the chance to play football again. He was in a JSU football uniform.

I hope this is not true.

more than likely it is. he had a drug issue and way before he joined the group. i have a friend from TX that knew him, we were talking about him a few months ago and she told me that even while they were out in the 90s he was hooked, and on over counter shat. sad situation.

Somehow I get the feeling there was very little 'High Five' money left.

Dayum, she wasn't bullshattin bout dem Tony stories!! :what: :smh:

I am not sure if he is the one but one of the Hi-5 members was not going to be on the new album. They were on Wendy Williams a few months ago becasue the excluded one had called in and she somehow got the others on the phone as well and they argued about why he was left out. They insinuated they he could not sing, they sang acapella on the station and then told Wendy to ask him to sing. He basically refused and they all laughed.

Back then, no groups really made any money...ask EnVogue and TLC.

You mean Black groups. Like New Edition who all were given a few hundred dollars and a beta max on their first deal. Pink toes have been getting paid since day one.

Look at how the drummers live in the white rock bands. There cribs are huge and they have money to burn.:shame::shame:

Black groups were swindled by their own kind.:shame::shame:
