Ask him to resign.
Duer only does what the President's tell him to do. The next guy will have to do the same.
Yes and No...SU, JSU, and GSU's presidents what change....but they are outnumbered and outgunned. So you are right to a degree. I just hate that they are outnumbered.
So what you're saying is the SWAC is a victim for self-induced incompetence?
Wow I'm surprised this dumb ass tweet didn't make sportscenter.
Technically yes...
We all know that some teams cannot schedule teams if the 9 game mandate was reduced. Also how many SWAC Schools this year played D-II teams utilizing the excuse of not being able to find opponents on the FCS or FBS level.
We have to be honest with ourselves the leadership of SWAC schools want a good product but don't put forth the effort to place effective leadership where it needs to be. This leads in to me discussing the firing of Doug by Dr. Pogue. Dr. Pogue spoke at the Jackson Parish GSU Alumni event and stated that "football is one of the primary recruiting tools for GSU and when it is weak our recruitment is weak."
The 9-game mandate is one of those things (Attendance welfare)...
Leadership (B.O.S., respective ADs, etc.) have failed to recognize the changing college landscape since the early 1990s (read: conference realignment, satellite TV/cable proliferation, APR, increased admission standards at member schools, etc.)
However, I think that the conference can still exist and thrive in today's market ... although slightly differently. Hard looks must be made by all members and the conference itself, answering several questions
1. Can we afford to compete at this level?
2. If so, what do we need to do to compete? What are our obstacles?
3. If not, what opportunities do we have/don't have by moving down to D2?
4. Which institutions give us the greatest opportunity for revenue when we choose to expand?
Can't disagree with that. I think each university should have an office of infrastructure in which what they do is operate as a "think tank" for a university. Most call this the Office of Institutional Advancement but the Office of Infrastructure is comprised of folks from policy formulation to technology folks....
Nowadays, our schools have to THINK TOGETHER to form a cohesive pact to help each other academically and athletically. Also, we must also THINK TOGETHER to develop new revenue streams to benefit our schools. We must also THINK TOGETHER to change the mindset of our policy makers and fan bases to help propel the SWAC into a positive direction (regardless if some members are added/deleted).
See those PWCs didn't care about tradition when dollars came into play. They kept it moving and left their old conferences. Our schools should have been thinking about which combinations provide the biggest revenue boon to our coffers and which combinations of member schools will survive a new conference or a move to another conference.
So he is just a yes man. We need someone like Daivd Stern or Roger Goodell.Duer only does what the President's tell him to do. The next guy will have to do the same.
I was a guest of Jarrett Carter on his HBCU Digest podcast yesterday. We talked about the SWAC and Duer's inactivity as a commissioner. And then to see him create that pitiful ass tweet about doing nothing and yet #BEGREAT simply pissed me off.
