Helping autistic man, black therapist shot by Florida police: media

I agree. The thing with the black cops is they usually work in the highest crime zone's. It's a catch 22 for them. They know if they tell to much when they are in need of back up the white boys want show up. This is a bad situation to be in.

Not all white cops are racist, but white supremacist have definitely infiltrated police forces around the U.S.

they're now shooting black men at will now because other cops who do it are being found not guilty etc.

The blue wall of silence has a new name which is blue lives matter....this consist of 90% cops around the country.

the good cops are scared to speak up cause "blue lives matter" lol....this ain't rocket science

There is SOOOO much stuff like this that happens that NEVER makes the news, print, or web. And since no one ever hears about it, most people assume it never happens. And I get it....trees falling in the forest.

What have you heard about the officer who was killed in KC, Kansas?

There are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers in the U.S.. In 2015, out of that number, only 25 were killed on duty.
It's unfortunate that those were killed but in reality, there's no epidemic of law enforcement officers being killed.

I can agree with your premise, but the numbers aren't correct. There were 86 line of duty deaths. Of the 86, 41 were considered "felonious", with the others being classified as accidental. With that in mind, 2015 is actually considered as a fairly safe year for law enforcement.

My number was based on MSNBC numbers but I can adjust that to yours. Even still though, 41 out of 900,000 is minuscule.
The number one killer of law enforcement is law enforcement themselves.

Approximately 102 officers committed suicide last year.
The average U.S. citizen with mental health issues is NOT allowed to own a gun.
That's one of the issues that's not being addressed, which is to help officers who already have mental health issues, yet who are allowed to legally carry guns.

That's why I said I agree with the premise. However, I believe 2016 numbers will be drastically different.

To your point about officers and mental health, they are much like the military. The things that officers see and do (in some cases) takes a toll. PTSD among officers is just as rampant as it is amongst veterans.... And maybe twice over off the officer is a veteran.

That is the best solution to all of what we are seeing in the United States. This is the model of the Jackson Police Dept., too. Guys who grew up in the community are now policing it. What this does is establish a mutual respect (in most cases) between the suspect and the officer. Perfect example is here in this article. Obviously all situations aren't the same. But this is how almost all incidents end in Jackson. In some other places, police would've been shot this guy. But cops are feeling less and less of a need to de-escalate situations, and the (in)justice system is permitting it. We have got to find a way to get more Blacks involved in law enforcement; more of the community involved.

http://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/local/2016/07/19/jackson-police-checkpoint-arrest/87285160/

Around 1 a.m., JPD was conducting an administrative checkpoint on Prentiss Street near St. Charles Street when they observed a 2016 white Dodge Charger attempting to elude the checkpoint. Officers confirmed that the vehicle was reported carjacked and involved in an armed robbery on July 12, Commander Tyree Jones said in a news release.
Officers searched for and later located the Charger in the area of Eastview Street near Central Street. When the driver spotted officers, the vehicle crashed into an embankment. The driver, armed with a handgun, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers chased the subject on foot and took him into custody after a scuffle.
The suspect was identified as Lexus Russell, 24. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the foot chase and scuffle with officers. He was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for minor injuries.

I can't recall the last time a JPD officer killed someone (maybe I just wasn't paying attention) but certain folks are always ripping on Jackson's crime rate.

Jackson has a Police Chief with SOME SENSE. He seems to hold his officers accountable and most of them are Black and many have lived in the communities they serve. That helps tremendously.
As far as the crime talk, violent crime in Jackson is far lower than it was when we had White mayors in the '80's and '90's. The murder rate during that time was around 90 to 100 per year.
Today, it's around 50-60 per year. In a city of it's size (85-90,000), that's not too bad.
The local media rarely mentions this, if ever. They're more like doom and gloom forecasters. This is what happens when we don't control the media.

I'm curious to know how many were killed by black men yet only black women

Right. I can't overemphasize how much The State of MS does to harm Jackson. People make a stink about crime, but New Orleans, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and other cities have just as much crime and they still flourish. It's not about crime in Jackson. It's about outsiders convincing people that Jackson is a bad place. My advice to any Black person is to always question and second-guess the media. Regardless of how far to the left or right the stations lean.

The things that an average black boy or girl growing up in poverty can cause PTSD as well.
We like to leave out how a citizen especially black can go through a case of PTSD . Everybody can fall into that category.

Isn't each officer supposed to be "evaluated" periodically? If so, how often must they be evaluated and is this even prioritized by police dept's.?

The full clip

Oh and Hispanic again is not a race..dude in here sounds like that white cracker.
You can tell who side folks are on, don't they sound the same and use the same rhetoric smh Lol

I know this. It's an ethnicity.

To my knowledge, I don't think there is a national standard for this. I know Texas requires a psych exam to be licensed initially, but I don't think there is a requirement for continuing exams. However, I do know for a fact that some departments will require an individual to undergo an exam after a critical incident or if other behavior, in their opinion, warrants it.

They said it was an accident. Getting shot THREE times is not an accident. If it was, he needs to turn his gun in just off of not knowing how to properly use it.
How did he even get a gun if he didn't know how to use it? That alone should warrant a lawsuit due to negligence.
The victim's lucky he wasn't another statistic.

Tommy Sotomayor bought up an interesting question-when are we going to start looking at these anonymous callers?

We have had 4 incidents of folks calling the cops because they "see" a gun.

John Crawford Jr at Wal-Mart in a state that was open carry.
Tamir Rice and the caller said the guy might be a toy and once again an open carry state.
Mr Sterling in Louisiana
Now this.

This prank calling of claiming folks have guns and they don't. When do we start making some examples of them? We can trace calls. They need to be punished as well.

I agree. People who make false claims need to face consequences.
