HBCU's in FCS Playoffs

South Carolina State gets a "at large" bid and Bethune Cookman gets Meac's bid.

ScSt plays in the first round against Georgia Southern
Bethune Cookman starts in the 2nd rd against New Hampshire

I have SCSU beating Georgia Southern. I don't think BCU can win a playoff game without their MVP QB.

This whole scenario sounds like the 99 playoffs..lol

Plus BCU's special teams are horrible. You can't win in the post season unless your special teams are up to par.

Didn't Georgia Southern just beat #1 App. State a few weeks ago? :lol: Good luck to both SCSU and BCU.

question, is all swac schools prohibited from the playoffs?
i saw a few 4 lose teams that got at large bids... i guess if they would have played se louisiana instead of delta state, we could make a argument

The NCAA will never give the SWAC another bid. We said, "Fugg your playoffs" a long time ago. If PV couldn't get in back in 2008, none of us are going to get a bid.

Almost all of JSU's playoff bids were at-large bids. PV didn't get in in 2008 because they played only a sorry D2 school like Lincoln or somebody and only had 10 games. There were also only 16 bids back then. PV kept themselves out of the playoffs with their schedule so that is a bad example to use. Had they played two decent OOC team and won at least one of them, they might have got in with a 9-2 record. The SWAC can get in but we have to do ALL the right thngs. The 7 schools who currently qualify for the playoffs should definitely schedule accordingly...and WIN! Had JSU and AlaState both beat TxSo this year, I don't think JSU's chances would have been bad.

With that being said, why did SCSU receive an at-large bid this year? Their OOC wins were against MVSU and D2 Benedict and they play in a sorry conference.

1. SCSU's only two losses were to the #13 ranked FCS school and a FBS school.

2. They have had competitive showings in the playoffs the past 2 years.

3. They ended the season ranked #12 in FCS.

1. Their loss to BCU says a lot because BCU is garbage. Wait until UNH beats the living dog sh*t out of them.
2. Their "competitive showings" did not translate to wins AND they are weaker this year than they have been in the last 2 seasons.
3. I know this. I was asking TP why SCSU got a bid this year with their sorry OOC schedule yet PV did not recieve a bid back in 2008.

I've seen BCU quite a few times on the tube they are ok nothin really to write home about! SCSU/Ga Southern game will be a good one!

History, they have 9 wins, and they beat sorry schools convincingly. When the committee knows you, they give you a pass.

PV simply did not deserve a bid.

1. They got drubbed by Grambling
2. Only had 10 games
3. Only played a sad D2

They never stood a chance. One more 1-AA team and a close loss to grambling and 4 extra teams in the playoffs would have improved their chances.
 
FCS Playoff Expansion:

It went from 16 teams and 8 automatic bids the last couple of years (including 2008) and 20 teams and 10 automatic bids in 2010.

No offense to SCState, but I have to wonder how much the "politics" of them voicing their preference for the Playoffs of the FCS over the Legacy Bowl entered into their selection. Not putting their worthiness into question, but looking at their non-conference games and the low regard voiced by some of the AGS folk concerning the MEAC makes me wonder as to the motive.
 
go back to 7 conference games. schedule the teams that are regional and national powers in FCS and beat them. do that and they'll bring the playoffs to us. As long as they handle the money the way they do there is no incentive to participate in the playoffs. HBCU's never get to host a game b/c they aren't going to pimp all their finances over the NCAA to have a home game. what's the upside of hosting a game and not making a dime for yourself off of it. if your the visiting team you don't get a dime. playing for free is not cool as I heard Mr. Newton say.
