HBCUs continue to make APR progress

Listen up maggots! And that's an order!
When the Division I membership created the Academic Performance Program, leaders emphasized the goal of the new academic standards and accompanying penalties for missing the mark was to inspire schools to improve, not punish them.

By that standard, the biggest Academic Performance Program success stories are happening at historically black colleges and universities and limited-resource schools. As a group, HBCUs have improved more than 40 Academic Progress Rate points in the past six years. Limited-resource schools, defined as ranking in the bottom 15 percent of Division I schools in several financial categories, have increased their collective Academic Progress Rate by nearly 30 points.

The number of penalized schools and teams from HBCUs and limited-resource schools continues to drop, reaching its lowest levels ever this year. The NCAA today released the full Academic Progress Rate data, including trends and penalties.

One of the clearest turnaround stories happened at Southern University. Just three years ago, the school was sitting in unusable data status. Eligibility and retention of student-athletes at the school couldn’t be verified, so none of their points could be counted. That rendered every team at the Louisiana school ineligible for NCAA championships.

@The Founder There's a noticeable difference in the number of HBCUs this year with some form of penalty. We're (HBCUs in general) are getting better slowly, but surely.

I think our athletic office's are getting better in the manner in which they monitor students. I like the approach SU took by educating a large number of people. That has been the dagger for many HBCUs...TRAINING and going to conferences and actually learning.
 
Limited resources....whatever. I think when APR was introduced, most HBCU's didn't take the time to look into how it could potentially impact them. And now that we've seen how, we've righted that ship. It's not a secret that many of our programs have people who hold critical positions that really shouldn't be in those positions. But overall we're making progress. I think.

Remember our Coach didn't want too. But if TxSU wins they go to the first seed. If we win, then Gram stays in first in the West and SU goes to the tourney.

Maybe they just should have let SU stay home in BR instead of folks wanting us to play that game.

Yall should just be happy with the second seed. Really no reason SU should play this game in my opinion. We are on ineligible for anything after the SWAC tourney so we shouldn't have a chance to win it if we beat TxSU in this make up game to get in. I say just let UAPB in and let TxSU play from the second seed spot. No big deal anyway. Right?
