This season was good despite Coach Rob not getting his salary bonus. But it would be nice if SU can bring more fans to the tourney. Im looking at around 10k for one game in the arena. I just dont know which game. I wish AAMU and Bama St played in the quarterfinals. I think Jackson St and Bama St will bring alot of fans despite the game tipping off at a early time. I don't know on the Women side. I really know that Valley fans will be in their. They have a 12:30PM game against AAMU. I don't see UAPB fans traveling to the tourney but who knows. What is your fan base for each school Men & Women?

Even after Bama State's former head coach Spivery and one assistant left for SU, ASU still stayed in the top four in attendance among HBCU's. The problem with Spivery's contract at SU is the incentive to sit an average of 4,000 fans in the stands this year. Apparently that didn't happen. Maybe he can do it next year.

I agree. Alot of people were pissed off because Micheal Grant left. I was glad a little because I didn't know who we had coming in but I found out that Coach Rob was coming then I said we might have a better team this year. If SU was to play OU when Micheal Grant was here we would have lost by 20+ instead of 14. We played USC, and some other colleges last year. Im not gonna lie Bama St found their future coach in Jackson.

Just goes to show you that we are still the best average school in America.

In some cats we were better than average. GR will be proud of us.

You still really cant go by this because different schools count attendence different ways... some go by ticket sales, some go by turnstyles and SOME guesstimate.

This is so true! The UAPB numbers are waaaaaaaay off! Only two home game were poorly attended and that was due to Ice. Although home games were not sold out, the student body was at all of the games that I was there. Anf that number was easy at 1,400 to 1,600! Students get in games free thru an activity fee that they pay during registration.

I have to agree with you on this one. Basketball has not caught on here yet.

And Philharmaonic is right those attendance figures are way off.

I've followed our attendance since 99. However this is the first year I paid attention to other HBCU's. SU Jags. What was your attendance like in the past? In a year in which you won the conference I'd expect attendance to be higher towards that 4K mark.

When ever attendance is discussed on this board or MEAC fans there is always a few who question the validity of the numbers. It?s usually from someone who?s universities attendance sucks. Mad that it?s sucks and this is how they deal with it.

Dahill, Philharmonic, & PBLA. If you say the numbers your school REPORTED are wrong, OK they are wrong. However, don't you think your athletic administration is doing your whole university a disservice by posting bogus numbers. Esp. numbers that are supposedly lower then what they ?should? be. After all these are the numbers that are reported to ESPN.com, CNNSI.com, FoxSports.com, Yahoo.com and every other media outlet in America.

I would strongly advise you contact your president, alumni association, and SWAC office about this. Attendance is major recruiting tool. How many quality athletes can you attract when your REPORTED average attendance is less then 900?

I have found that with JSU some attendance numbers can be way off (i.e. Homecoming 2001 vs. Alabama State when we easily had 35-40K in attendance and the report said about 20K). However, in most cases, the number are on point and for those who want to say that the figures are off, I am sure that no school on the list has student body totals in their attendance counts, not even TNState.

I also hope that the ESPNU money made up for the money we lost vs. MS Valley. That game would probably had drawn at least 5K in Jackson but it was played at 10AM on a Saturday morning.

You're right TP. I was at that game, and there's no way there was only about 20K people there.

All of SU's home games comes on Cox Sports(regional tv) which basically kills our attendence. Alot of people choose to stay at home and watch instead of attending the games. Even the students watch from their dorm room:shame: . From the 70's-the early 90's SU's attendence was outstanding when we were constantly putting quality teams on the court.

SU vs JSU 2003 the reported attendence was 46,000. There wasn't a seat in the house.

when your gym is full and it holds 6,000 and the attendence is reported as 1500 (keep in mind 1500 on the dot) it is WRONG. We dont have a turnstyle, our attendence is one mans guess.

So are you saying that his guess is THAT BAD?????? DAMN!:shame:

Im just saying SOMETHING is wrong. The numbers are way off... now I KNOW we dont average nowhere close to 4,000 a game but these reported numbers are WRONG.... Bama State has a turnstyle so theres is probably more accurate. but I did see where ASU had a high turnout for Senior connection day, where high school seniors get free tickets to go to a game... aint no way in hell they would have counted that at AAMU. We have alot of students at our games also though, so that is what it may be.

I think that's a false assumption. I'm still old school and believe winning will put arses in the seats....Hell, some of these mid-majors get on live TV..and the gym is PACKED.

HBCUs have to start PROMOTING the games better in order to draw more people in. You have to draw people, like Bill Veeck does in minor league baseball. If you make the game something worth going to, then the people will come. You gotta make the game an experience...

For example..have "Car Wash Money night" for SU vs. Alcorn or somebody at the Minidome... 50 cents a ticket to the first, let's say 2,000 with those people in the running for an all-expense vacation/car/"happy ending :ebrow: " or something...
