HBCU Coaches on Hot Seat

We are close to the start of training camp in a little under a month. With that being said I wanted to take the time to ask you guys who are the coaches that are on the hot seat in HBCU Football both FCS & D2.

(1) Tony Hughes - Tony Hughes seat is hell hot. I believe that if he doesn't win at least 5 games this year and a 2nd place finish in the EAST they will be calling for his head. He has proven to have a decent defense especially a good Front 7, but his offense has been nothing to write home about. Jackson St. going to have to develop a running game that has been lacking every since Comegy has been gone. The Jackson St. faithful is not going to continue to put up with losing seasons. I believe that if Jackson St. don't challenge for the EAST this year they will be calling for his head.

(2) Mike Haywood - His seat is hot, just not as hot as Tony Hughes seat. He had an advantage over Tony Hughes due to the fact that he have been a HC before at Ohio University. He is at a disadvantage because he has been out of coaching over 5 years. The expectations are a lot higher at Jackson St. but he is going to have to establish a winning culture at Texas Southern.

I'm wondering if Odums is on the hot seat. I really believe SU wants a Celebration Bowl win and appearance bad. It seems that Fobbs has his number.

Agree and agree. Comegy’s running game was built on JSU always having the most physical offensive lines in the SWAC. I remember watching those guys pushing Mississippi State around. Whoever that offensive line coach was, JSU should be trying to bring him back.

Haywood has to win at least 5 games this year. His record in the SWAC isn’t as bad as it might feel to Texas Southern fans. Being 6-10 in 2 years of rebuilding isn’t really bad. This year, he should feel some heat to win the games he can/should win. Haywood has to find a way to get over the “almost” hump. Of those 10 losses, 5 of them were defeats of 7 points or less.

It's not the running game that we were lacking. Under Hughes we haven't had a QB so all opposing defenses had to do was stop the run. We finished last year with a RB and WR at the QB position (switched OC's and brought in a couple wins 3-1 in the East). That all changes this year and On Paper our offensive staff looks to be as good as any. Our line is decent enough to win with we just had No THREAT of a passing game.

And why exactly are you worried about Odums and furthermore shouldn’t reaching the celebration Bowl be the goal for everyone?

First I'm responding to the thread....the thread never said "is your coach on the hotseat."

The other issue is since Fobbs came to the SWAC he has basically manhandled the SWAC and his records proves it. 31-2 in conference play....in 4 years. Name a SWAC coach who has the accomplishment in the SWAC in their first four years.

Now enough about Fobbs but back to your question....Southern is about winning championships just as bad as GSU is. PERIOD. You nor any SU poster here can deny that. It has been how many years since Odums won the West and SU has had one of the most prolific backfields in SWAC football during these years and receivers to match. In short if anything me saying Odums may be on the hot seat is actually giving SU props because the players you possessed should have gotten SU to the SWAC Championship and put Alcorn to sleep.

Now does that answer your question.....

There is only 2 coaches in the Swac in the hot seat and that is jsu's from the east and stu's from the west.

I'd say Hughes is sitting in a warm seat! Lol! He has made some bold personnel changes on the Offensive side of the ball who are in turn bringing in a change in the offensive game-plan as well as additional personnel to instill it. We always keep a high ranking Defense. I think he'll get at least 1-2 years to see how this new Offensive scheme works.

Doubt it lol (especially with a new AD), he either wins or he will be sent packing. Special teams and defense has been solid under him. He seems to have made the right hires on the offensive side of the ball. A bunch of younger guys that have all worked in the Air Raid system under coach Mumme at some point in their careers. He should have a successful year

So you're saying that southern is satisfied with mediocrity. Sounds about right.
We're not going to fire a coach that has had us in contention for the title all five of his seasons as the full-time head coach while dealing with all of the NCAA troubles we had during that time period. We've seen what has happened to JSU and A&M after firing a winning coach.

Nope. Worm did all he did with scholly restrictions, practice restrictions and no spring drills. This spring was the first time he ever had spring drills.

Southern was competitive that entire time. Now Worm’s contract is up after the 2019 season. Going to be interesting to see what he does in these next two seasons.

SU wants a Celebration Bowl Championship...they don't get one by 2019....Worm is gone.

The sad part is I'm trying to state that SU is not satisfied with mediocrity but you have SU fans basically saying that they are per se....LOL
We've had a winning season each of Odums' 5 seasons here while dealing with all of the NCAA mess. Most coaches would have left or used it as an excuse to have losing teams. Odums kept it pushing and will now reap the benefits in 2018 and 2019.

Let's see, 3 SU fans saying that isn't true while a Grambling fan is trying to say he is on the hot seat. How that work? lol

We will see when SU is at home for 2 years again....

SU folk don't take kindly to losing to GSU too often...LOL
