HBCU banned from using word ‘Black’ to promote campus events in DEI crackdown

That is an easy impediment to get around. We have a culture rich in iconic figures, slogans and symbols that can easily be used to reach the target audience for our events.

Since this the article mentioned flyers, printing the name of the event on paper with pictures of black icons will convey the same meaning.

Slogans like Fight the Power, Speak Truth to Power and I'm Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired will work also.

Symbols such as a black raised fist, black liberation flag, ankh or sankofa bird will do the same as well.

This is ridiculous. It's an HBCU. Next it will be D9 not being able to mention Black Fraternities.

Not really a surprise that this happen, as Black Student Unions and Black Alumni Associations have been going through this for the last few years at Colleges and Universities. When congress passed "a no DEI funding bill (when Trump took office)," they had to make an exception for HBCUs. If you want to go further back, the term HBCUs is a relatively new term created on November 8, 1965 (as part of Higher Education Act of 1965).

As other poster said just change the name to something else, but use pictures and phrases to promote the event or organization.

that is what certain groups want, as they are trying to promote the narrative that if a person mention race that they are promoting racism. Look at happen to non profit Fearless Fund Lawsuit. According to law that fund should of been protected because it was created because of racism targeted at black women. I will never understand why the lawyers for the Fearless Fund was trying to argue representation and some other stuff, rather than using plan words that the Fearless Fund was a product of fighting discrimination against black women.
