Hawaii athletics director Ben Jay painted a grim picture for the future of his football program while speaking to the university’s board of regents on Monday afternoon.

"There's a very real possibility of football going away," Jay reportedly told the Board.

Hawaii is currently facing a $2.1 million budget deficit this year and has worked under a budget deficit during 11 of the past 13 years.

And the football program isn’t helping.

Because the program has not had a winning season since 2010 and has won just four games in the past two seasons, interest is down. By the end of July, Hawaii had sold just 15,568 season tickets for the team’s seven-game home schedule.

So June Jones leaves and now football is in jeopardy?

We've had a few kids from over there, but none of them panned out.

I told you guys some schools who dont generate the revenue that you all think, would be dropping there programs before they pay athletes...expect to see more FBS programs do this!

I think that is one of the reasons he left truth be told. I am sure it didn't help matters when he did leave.

I agree. You will see a lot schools drop football.

There biggest problem is location and lack of population.

Hawaii is expensive as well. Folks don't have money just to go to football games like that. Especially what it takes to stay competitive at the FBS level.

Most major college programs have a large number of fans that support their school, but didn't attend. In addition to Hawaii being so expensive to live, nobody can just drive to and attend their games like other schools.

true but at the end of all that the revenue isn't there its like that for some other schools.

I always enjoyed watching Hawaii's pregame ritual. I feel like I'm speaking at a funeral. :smh:  :emlaugh:
