heard several rummors, but no official documentation has been provided yet. wondering does anyone know anything?

actually it might not be that far fetched. if I can find the article myself because i rember reading it in the clairon some where.

JSU DOESN'T OWN VETERAN'S

SORRY TO REPORT THAT JSU DOESN'T OWN, NOR WILL IT EVER OWN VETERAN MEMORIAL STADIUM.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN PART OF THE SETTLEMENT FROM THE AYER'S DESEGREGATION CASE, BUT THE STADIUM COMMISSION REFUSED TO TURN IT OVER TO JSU. I AM NOT SURE WHY, BUT THAT IS THE DEAL WITH THAT.

:) JUST A FEMALE'S PERSPECTIVE.

JSU doesn't own the stadium but it does have use of the stadium. We can use the stadium rent free for football and any other function we want to. We also have additional representation on the stadium commission. The state is respoonsible for all upkeep and remodeling.

*SMH*

Right now I'm thinking of a oldschool Envouge song that sounds kinda like "fries"

Thrilla, to be honest, I am not up to date with what the real deal is on the stadium. People are saying different things but I don't think we are paying rent anymore. I think that is why we used it for Graduation this year. A lot of things in the Ayers case are being pushed through before the case is settled in court. For example, the Ayers case gives JSU a building for the School of Engineering. If you read the articles about when JSU lost to Alcorn in baseball, you will notice that it said that it was JSU's last game on that field. That is because they are going to break ground on the Engineering building this summer where the baseball field is now. So with the Stadium being a part of the settlement, I think they are trying to work some things out.

Regardless, 10K/game to use that stadium is a steal.

TP, I think I would be more inclined to believe you ....if you weren't the same clown who about a year and a half ago was adamantly saying JSU never payed stadium rent. Now you're saying JSU just doesn't pay rent anymore.

Cry wolf = lose credibility.

Thrilla,

Apparently you don't know the difference in Rent and Activity Fees. They just talk differently in the Sipp. For instance, GSU's Denmark Reed is not a safety, he is a defensive receiver. Those were not interceptions...but defensive completions

Got it?

I wanted to be correct, so i went and talked to the director of facilities management, and accordign to him, we do not own it as of this date, it is still owned by the state, but there are descrepencies in the financing of the stadium, and who will make the rest of the repairs and stuff.

But as soon as the game is over the stadium crew is turning off the lights and cutting the grass in a hurry to get you to leave.

Thrilla,

That is becasue, we did not pay rent before 1995 or 1996. I was unaware of the changes. And an activity fee is not rent, MikeBigg. Rent is the 350K Gram pays to use the Superdome. The activity fee is the additional $3-$4 dollars on your ticket that goes to the STATE when you use any state facility. So GSU pays rent and an activity fee.

A lot of those things included in the Ayers case won't come to fruition until a few years have passed. The stadium deal is one of them. The hold up right now is not the stadium commission, they have no say really. The hold up is THE JACKSON BANDITS inc. (The professional Hockey team in Jackson). The team is about to build a new arena and one of the proposed locations is at the open end of Memorial Stadium. It would be the arena and support facilities for the stadium, along with another renovation project of the stadium, to merge the two design concepts. Until we are sure what the Bandits will do, noting that there are a few more proposals for their arena, or whether they will stay in Jackson, we will have to wait. One thing has already been put into stone though and that is that JSU does not pay RENT for Memorial PERIOD. The name will go on the stadium etc. when things are worked out with the Bandits and the city, but the stadium will belong to JSU, it's a part of the Ayers Case settlement.

NOW

BORNTHRILLA

AT ANY RATE

I WOULD RATHER PLAY IN MEMORIAL STADIUM ANNNNNYYYYDAY, THAN TO CALL YALLS PUT-TOGETHER SHAT HOME. LMAO.

I mean I know you guys are really excited that you have lights and all now, *sniker* but dayum....:lmao:

JSU, seriously, if you are waiting on the Bandits to make a decision, you guys ain't getting shat done. Let me preface what I'm about to say by saying that I am a hockey writer and the Bandits compete in the same league that the Baton Rouge Kingfish do (the East Coast Hockey League, but I write for InTheCrease.Com).
After talking with people and finding things about the Bandits ownership and General Manager, Brad Ewing, they have NO clue as to what they want to do. They need the arena bad with the Miss. Coliseum being used for the state basketball playoffs and too many damn horse shows (chases the Bandits out every year for a full two-month road trip!). But, funding and shoddy management are the problems.

For JSU's sake, I hope they can separate the projects so you guys can move on with whatever you are doing up there and leave the Bandits to themselves. Whether you rent it or not, Memorial is a nice facility and you guys need to take care of it, or whoever is supposed to.

You all do the same thing. Get in on what the nation talks about or talk that is against the nation. I guess when it happens to the tigers it is a bad thing.
