I wish there were women commenting more in some of these threads. I'm curious, if the demand is so high, why aren't black business women saling hair?

My friends daughter sells hair, not sure how well she does. However she doesn't have a brick and mortar business

They are many stylists and Black owned hair shops.

Here is the kicker though. They pulled this publicity stunt for their grand opening but their store will be broken into regularly now for the hair.

I know two black women who went to A&M that are millionaires in Atlanta who has been in the hair business for decades. The problem is the Asians control the market. I tried to get into the business back in the early 2000's and you'd be surprised the lock they have on it.

I have heard those barriers exist, it sounds like black business folks need to look into manufacturing to break the stronghold they have on retail and wholesale markets.

One of the things that hurt us as a people is that we don't travel enough with the idea of learning about different cultures. There is whole religious and cultural based permanent-under-class of women from India that will gladly sell their hair for a nominal fee.

Please you all listen to the following three minute video to see how much our struggles align.

Dalit is a term used for untouchables and outcasts, who represented the lowest stratum of the castes in the Indian subcontinent.

Nothing about this type of thing is new... we need to stop acting as if it is lol. The only difference now is social media and the internet. Too many black folks just refuse to admit the fact that we have classes amongst black folk just the same as every other race. White folks that live in Alpharetta don't want to associate with white folks in the trailer park anymore than the black folks in Douglasville want to associate with black folks on Old National.

I've lived in Douglasville for 12 years now and I can tell you first hand, these folks out here have HOA's...and are dead ass serious about it. They don't tolerate the ratchet shit and will call the police on your ass just as fast as white folks will. A new beauty store opened in LaGrange not too long ago and it was this same type nonsense.

9am on a Monday and the line was wrapped around the corner. Same type stupidity over some damn synthetic hair. Only difference was, the city is small so unless it's a shooting, news doesn't make it to large outlets.

I'm usually biased on topics like this because I HATE all those add on accessories. The big ass lashes, the long silly looking nails, 3 paint layer thick make up...and that's before even considering all of the plastic surgery here. Probably why I chose one that just does her own hair and has no need to wear all that other shit. I live in the land of slicked down baby hair and lace front wigs. I hate it.

Who is the Madame C. J. Walker of this time period?

She exists but the issue is if you don't do online and actually promote your product and have it in a store- folks don't know who you are.
I know Target got plenty black owned but aside from Charleston White and I want to say Tabitha Brown-I could not tell you the rest names.

We know they exist. The issue is we can't call them out without OTHER classes attacking us for being race traitors.

Nobody is allowed to hold them accountable. While they give ammo to those folks at Rodent news and use that as a way to a certain house in Washington.

Manufacturing is the key like one said but we don't have access to utilize African resources like our counterparts with their countries

Asians have gained control of the donut business - hair - certain segments of food, etc.
Indians have gained control of IT outsourcing, corner stores, etc.
Italians and Jews have dominated the grocery business

That problem can be easily solved by doing trade delegations. There are black chamber of commerce in nearly every major city. Some of them do good things trying to aide and advise black business owners. Hopefully, trade delegations are on some of their agendas.

Although desirable, the reach shouldn't be limited to mother Africa. Money is a universal language, if you have it barriers break down quickly.
