Gunrange a few hundred yards from elementary school

I wanna be your lover...
What thought process was going on when some human came up with this idea?:saw:

A Connecticut town is caught up in a heated debated over whether a proposed gun range should be built just hundreds of feet from a local elementary school.
"I'd say total insanity. A gun range should not be put next to a school, period. Put it on the outskirts of Waterbury, or somewhere else," community activist Lisa Lessard said in a video.
Proponents of the development say the gun range and accompanying gun store would post no actual risk to young students next door at the Sprague Elementary School in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Nonetheless, the local Board of Education sued the city last summer after it approved zoning for the gun range.
Mayor Neil O'Leary and some of the local council members say the gun range would also bring funds to Waterbury. O'Leary has asked the Board of Education to reconsider the lawsuit, saying it is costing the city too much money.

How much does he think a dead kid hit by a stray bullet lawsuit will cost?

Aren't most gun ranges indoor and sound proof?

I don't see why the gun range would WANT to be that close to a school though. :noidea:

The fact that the article doesn't say whether it is indoors or outdoors tells me that it is probably indoors. Based on the comments below the article, it is indoors and undergrond. Media sensationalism.

If this is an outdoor range your concern may be an issue, but if it's an indoor range that is not happening. And the whole lead issue, is really a non issue. In highschool we had a rifle range on the third floor for the JROTC Rifle Team and they(we) were shooting at least twice a week during the regular school year!

I'm guessing this is an indoor range, because of the included gun store. The concern should be the traffic that would be brought near the school and although I'm all for the 2nd Amendment and peoples gun rights, not everyone that owns or wants a gun or rifle is a reputable person and thus you don't want them "hundreds of feet" near a school.

Whether a gun range is indoor or outdoor, each one has a backstop/berm to absorb the impact of the bullet and to lessen the sound. So from the outside/in you should never hear the gunshots unless you are actually in the building and if it's constructed properly, unless you are right outside the range, you will not hear the gun shots.
