GSU/PV Suspensions

I'm being critical of the SWAC office for handling what it does have control of: Review and punishment for the actions of Gram and PV. Gram and PV players were wrong for what they did. Their azzes should get suspended. Still doesn't mean that the front office should dilly dally and say "our computers went down" and wait until the last minute to announce its actions. One thing (fight) has not one damn thing to do with the other (SWAC office's response). Gram and PV mishandled their situation AND the SWAC office mishandled it's situation.

Some folk will justify anything. 2 years ago in the Superdome, Daryl Asberry called a 50 yard pass against SU one of the final plays because SU called timeout. The score was 36-14 and that clown got mad because SU called a time out. I didn't understand the TO myself, but it didn't mean the coach should try to score a TD because of it. There's a thing called "class" that some coaches need to learn.

When PV got the ball near the end of the game did they try to score?
Didn't PV score on a 2 point conversion?
Didn't PV attempt an onside kick?

I think the swac did the reight thign and goign thru all the tapes.Had they jsut rushed to judgement they could suspended triple the player s of whol they suspended.they probably picked out the most noticable players in teh melee.gram was not trying to run the score up.IF we was so dayum what?we scored 65 onthey azz last year and no one complained.i say put 80 on they azz next year for not seeign our gratuity this year by allowingthem to get within 13 points late in the game.

Why is Grambling upset with the SWAC front office. Shouldn't the coach know that something is going to happen. Could he not review the tape, see his players that MAY BE in danger of being suspended and prepare for that. Really, if this was a white school, most white coaches would have been PROACTIVE and suspended the players before a ruling came down from the front office.

I'm not excusing the SWAC for the delayed decision, but both coaches should have at least prepared for something, instead of pretending like nothing ever went down.

A message of what?

PV's previous score was in the middle of the 4th qtr, GSU just came off a safety.

BOX SCORE:
4th QTR
PRAIRIE VIEW-TD, C Gibson 7 YD RUN (C McCall KICK) 6:09 4th
Qtr
GRAMBLING-TD, A Kauuan 2 YD RUN (B Morgan KICK) 11:47 4th
Qtr
GRAMBLING-SAFETY, 13:17 4th Qtr
GRAMBLING-TD, Z Haymond 6 YD PASS FROM B Landers (B Morgan
KICK) 14:00 4th Qtr
PRAIRIE VIEW-TD, G Chatman 30 YD PASS FROM M Hill (A Fontenot
RUN FOR TWO-POINT CONVERSION) 14:58 4th Qtr

Well I guess you left after the it was 14:58 left in the 4th quarter, cause I was there and PV scored with 2:00 minutes ledt in the 4th quarter, so it looks as if PV were trying to catch. So if you are going to put blame on GSU then put blame on PV as well, don't just try to blame GSU for everything, now me personally, I live for GSU always have and always will, win or lose, I'm a die heart football person and I think that if the game in the middle of the 4th quarter had been brought under control and the player for PV who got ejected had been escorted to the locker room, by the PV administrators, I don't think this would have happen. It looks like to me that the administrators from PV wanted something to happen. At all games I've gone to, whenever a player is ejected he is immediately escorted to the locker room and is not allowed to just sit on the bench. Didn't Coach Fraizer know that at the end of the game the players meet on the field the shake hands? Makes one wonder if he even cared that something like this might happen.

I must admit I cringed in my seat when we threw that TD (I think we scored in two plays from our 40yd with about a minute in the game). I remember explaining to my Mom about the sportsmanship factor, but to no avail. She said, we are supposed to score. LOL.

But rob, I think it was more of message to Frazier for his lack of controlling his players. There were more than a few cheap shots taken on Landry Carter.

Besides our team is young, we need the work.

We fumbled 2 or 3 times in the 2nd half. Also, we took it easy on PV. We clearly worked on the Wing T for almost a quarter.

Like I said ... It's was <B>useless</B> to try give a timeline of actions ... when some people want to blame anyway.

Nowhere in did I say anything about the IT problems caused any delay in the decision. But someone wants to say I was using that as an excuse.

There was no dilly-dalling in trying to make sure the proper <I>"fighters" </I>. There were some people involved, that we just could not identify by their jersey number ... even looking at the tapes over and over again several times. We did have to wait for better quality tapes, but that's not an excuse either. The schools had a preliminary report on Tuesday. Just because you didn't hear about until Thursday, doesn't mean the schools were not in the Loop.

This was a serious and embarrasing incident that required "due diligence" and thorough investigation.

I did not try to give any excuses or put any "spin" on the investigation ... I just gave you information. But some people can't handle information ... it's like ... <I>"Don't try to confuse me with facts ... My mind is already made up!"</I> :mrt: :mrt:

And some of you wonder why I don't post much on TSP. Sometime "too much" information is bad for some people.

Gotta agree with Robber and Fiyah on this one. That was totally unnecessary for Spears to have Landers throwing a TD pass that late in the game. There is no excuse for that.

On a side note, I wonder if this little fiasco will have any impact on Spears' remaining on as head coach after the season. I'm pretty sure that those that didnt want him as head coach at Grambling are thinking of using this incident against him when the time comes.

When you're behind arn't you suppose to continue to play the game and this was after GSU's sportsmanship of throwing passes to score with 1:00 to go in the game and a 22 point lead.

Didn't PV attempt an onside kick?
Do you know anything about being tactical in football?
That was not a onside kick! It was a squibb kick. It is done to keep the opposing team from forwarding the ball with little time left on the clock. There was 2 seconds left and the clock starts as soon as someone touches the ball.

You need to check the time again on what is the official box score and invert it. How the hell can a team thats down by 22 points with 1:15 left in the game catch up? PV scored after GSU scored another TD with 1:00 on the clock to make it a 19 point lead and 2 seconds remaining in the game.
Also when a player is disqualified he can not be on the field of play, he can still be on the sidelines. This isn't like baseball or basketball when their is a ejection.

Yea Right, They shouldn't have fought. But the incompetent SWAC refs that are a total embrassment to college football let this thing get out of hand. These players just didn't decide after the game was over that we should fight. The late hitting, cutting players at the knees, piling on after the play is over led to this, but nobody sees that. The SWAC is hood ran point blank.

Yeah...nevermind the late hits and chopblocks that were going on the entire game. That is real sportsmanship

Our team is playign with 3rd stringers who were made first stringers only by injury.if pv cannot stop 3rd stringers starters they need to get drove.they were still tryign to win the game. y'all msut want gram to down the ball everytime we get it to let them back into the game.i say bust the clock on they azz with 3rd stringers palying starting roles.if you cannot stop them go recruit and stop letting us out recruit your own state and city of course.go and recruit someone to play defense.nobody is going to lay doen for pv or any school and feel pity.if you can beat a tam by thirty beat them by thirty.leave no doubt whatsoever.cringe my azz!!!i was cheering my azz when landers threw that td pass.stop it !!!!!it is like complaining about to dancing inth eendzone .if you stop him form scoring he cannot dance on your azz!!

I disagree with all of you who are on this "Spears tried to run up the score" shullbit. NOBODY COMPLAINED LAST YEAR WHEN THE SCORE WAS 65-7!!!!!

A football game is just that, A GAME!! Nobody complained when LSU got they butts handed to them on a silver platter last week, NOBODY complained when Alabama St. whooped Alcorn 41-8.

If I were a coach, I rather my team try and score on each play than let up and let a SU/Bama St happen.

Well, if I were a head coach and my team is up 46-24 with a minute left in the game, I'm gonna have my quarterback take snaps and kneel until I can run the clock out instead of throwing passes. This is college football not arena football where you have to make an attempt to gain yards and can't down the ball.

I can't believe any of you would try to justify something like that.

Maybe I just have a different view but as long as the clock is running, I don't have a problem with a team trying to score. Those kids practice to long for just 11 opotunities to display thier skills and to achive the ultimate and make it to the end zone. If a team playing my team is up by 20 points, and calls a time out to try and throw another bomb, that's fine with me. Our coach better know how to stop it, and if not I am glad that they are piling it on to help expose it.

To me, the ultilmate insult (even when I played) was when the other team "called off the dogs" and stopped trying to score. Against a good team, winning by 20 points in the 4th quarter doesn't mean you got the game won, ask ASU.

Great Point Lewis!

I could'nt have said it any better! If you ever played the game before and is not just a spectator trying to analyze the game you would understand you practice to perform for 60 minutes of hardcore football, not 58 minutes and the you lay down...that's how injuries become reality :upset:

True, True, True!!!

I can appreciate the truth and I personally would encourage you to continue to post in this forum. True posters need factual information from the SWAC office regardless of those with negative views of the office and it's administration.

Gramfan,

With the way the SWAC Conf. schedule is screw up, point spread might be used as a tie-breaker.

This is probably useless :sleep2: with many minds set to criticize and blame, but for what it's worth, here is a timeline of how this situation was dealt with at the SWAC office;

Sunday-10/03 (10a) -- Commissioner & senior staff members meet on incident and begin collecting statements from school administrators (AD, coaches) and game officials. Request tapes from schools and Fox Sports.

Monday-10/04 -- begin review of game tapes (some were of poor quality) ... continued contact with school administrators ... asked Fox Sports for additional tapes (angles).

Tuesday-10/05 -- Received and reviewed additional tapes from Fox Sports. Contacted school officials of preliminary findings (players coaches that were identified)

<B><I>Tuesday Night --- SWAC office email and website went down (Major communications company failure)</B></I>

Wednesday-10/05 -- ... Overnighted dubbed tapes to schools for their review ...

<B> SWAC changed website & email servers (company), service restored (propagation) Thursday A.M.</B>

Thursday-10/06
(1:00p) -- Reviewed tapes again on appeal from school(s) of several players identified.
(4:00p) released sanctions release.

<B> BOTTOM LINE </B> -- SWAC office followed a procedure, collected information, attempted a thorough and fair investigation, stayed in contact with schools, notified them first ... then levied sanctions. We purposely did not release named to the public, privacy of individuals, left that to schools if they wished.

As I stated before ... this may not matter to some :shades: , but this is how it shook down.

SWAC PR Man

SWAC PR Man, thanks for the insight, but should Grambling or PVU suffer for the incompetencies and technical failures of the SWAC office, which have delayed the release of the game suspensions. And, why did the SWAC office request all tapes of the games from Fox at one time. The delay in SWAC's decision-making process must improve so as to permit sufficient prep time.

THAT IS LIKE HAVING A RUNNING CLOCK IN FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!THE CAOCH SHOULD KNOW HOW THO STOP IT.HE GETS PAID TOO.I SAY LIEK ROB USE TO SAY"RUN IT TIL THEY STOP IT"!!!!!!!I WISH FOLKS WOULD QUIT CRYING.I COULD SEE IF THIS WAS HGI SCHOOL FOOTBALL BUT IT IS NOT .THIS SUPPOSED TO BE SEMI BIG TIME FOOTBALL IN THE SWAC.I SEE WHY OTHER CONFERENCES MAKE FUN OF US.RUNNING THE SCORING UP???? :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: IT IS CALLED PUTTING POINTS ON TEH BOARD.GRAM WAS TRYIGN TO CLOSE OUT FIGHSTY PV TEAM AND GET SOEM 3RD STRINGERS SOME TIME TO SHINE.I COULD SEE IF THAT WAS OUR REA FIRST TEAMERS OUTTHERE BUT THEN I STILL CANNOT SEE.THIS AIN'T PEE WEE FOOTBALL FOLKS!!!!!

This is suppose to be about punishment not how the SWAC office can work around a schools schedule. If they wouldn't have broken the rules they wouldn't have to be concern about this now would they?
