GSU/PV Suspensions

I am told that there will be 10 players from Grambling and 9 players from Prairie View suspended for their actions after the GSU/PV game last Saturday night.

That is all that I know right now. I was not given names nor the length of the suspension.

A press release should be coming soon.
 



I watched this on tv, and I saw the small scuffle and I saw a PV coach hightailing it across the field.... IT was broken up before it started.
 
So will the suspensions start for this upcoming game? If so, they need to let it out so someone can know.

Oh, no ma'am! It was broken up, started again, broken up again, and started again over here, there, here, there, there, and there, all while the announcer is telling them to get off the field, and the police and gang unit mofos were running ONTO the field. Fists were flying, hands were flying, HELMETS were flying ... it was a big arsed MESS, and I'm GLAD y'all didn't see it all on TV.
 
SWAC Levies Sanctions For Prairie View - Grambling State Football Altercations
October 7, 2004

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has suspended nine members of Grambling State University?s football team and eight members of Prairie View A&M University?s football team for their actions in the postgame fight Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the State Fair Classic in Dallas, TX.

Two assistant coaches, one from Grambling and one from Prairie View, will also be suspended for one game for their flagrant misconduct during the postgame altercation. Each head coach, Henry Frazier, III and Melvin Spears, will be reprimanded and fined for not showing the proper restraint in their conduct during the fight.

The players and assistant coaches have been suspended for one game each effectively immediately. The SWAC Office announced the suspensions to the respective institutions on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 stating that the individuals had violated the conference?s Sportsmanlike Conduct Policy by engaging in flagrant misconduct as it relates to fighting.

All suspensions, reprimands and fines will be effective immediately. The suspensions will be enforced for games played on Saturday, October 9, 2004.

The incident was embarrassing and marred what had been an outstanding event. The SWAC Office encourages sporting behavior and adherence to the conference?s Sportsmanlike Conduct Policy. We will continue to enforce the policies to ensure that everyone in our athletics programs act in a manner that brings credit to our member institutions, themselves, intercollegiate athletics and the conference.

GSU has more than PV? Interesting....they split it down the middle....I'll take that..

A thought just came to mind......imagine that. With all the trouble thats been said about the city/state of Texas giving the locals about this game, how do you think this is going to effect it?

You know, that is an interesting point. The city of Dallas has just paid a research group $8,000 to research and investigate if the city of Dallas should give PVU and GSU $50,000 each to have the game in Dallas. I'm sure this will become a topic to consider.
 
All they had to do to break it up was to get real close to the action and fire a few shots in the air.You know how we are when we hear gunfire. :nod:
 
I don't know ... that might have worked, but they were so heated ... within one of the groups fighting, I saw hands flying AT the police ... that mess was completely out of control ...

Bullets do land somewhere after they are fired. I lost a friend of the family several years ago when someone shot into the air during New Years celebration.

The bullet came down and struck him in the middle of the head and killed him instantly

no you weren't the only one that missed everything, I was at the game and went to the concessions and missed the melee !

I was one of the ones that left when there were only 2 seconds left in the game, and I missed the melee. All I could hear was the announcer telling both teams to leave the field or the police will be called, after about the 4th announcement, my finace' jump back over the fence to see what was going on, when he came back he told me that both teams were fighting. As we were walking down the midway, I heard people saying that there were fights all over the field and some of the coaches were involved as well. Well that will teach me, from now on I will stay until both teams have gone to the locker rooms and they have turned out the lights. Now I'm a big football fan and I just can't believe that I missed the 5th quarter. But this is truly a sad day in football when this type of thing happens, and that is all that the media wants and they take it and run with it. This is something I hope doesn't happen at another HBCU game anywhere. This is not the type of media coverage that we need. WE NEED MORE POSITIVE THINGS GOING ON.

Blame the refs, they should have taken control of the game. Call some penalties or something.
