NCAA starts GSU inquiry
Probe focuses on reported use of ineligible players
By Nick Deriso

GRAMBLING — The NCAA is reportedly investigating the use of ineligible football players during Grambling State's just-completed conference championship season.

Interim GSU athletics director Duer Sharp did not comment on the pending action, though he confirmed Friday morning that interviews had been held.

Sharp said the school's compliance office is handling the matter. He informed GSU coach Melvin Spears by letter of the investigation earlier this week. Officials arrived on campus days later.

As a rule, the NCAA does not comment about ongoing investigations. Also unavailable was Spears, who was traveling on Friday to Washington D.C., where he will be named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year by the Pigskin Club.
The investigation would likely focus on senior defensive tackle Lennard Patton and a series of players who attempted to transfer to GSU before last season.

Jefferies Set To Resign From Grambling As Athletics Director
By GSU Sports Information

Grambling, LA ? Willie Jeffries, athletic director at Grambling State University, announced his plans to resign at the end of the month. Jeffries cited family concerns as a reason for this decision. The resignation will become effective September 30.

?It is unfortunate that he is leaving,? said GSU President Horace A. Judson. ?For the short time he was here, Coach Jeffries made a strong contribution to our athletic programs. We are as sad to see him go as we were delighted in having him come. We wish him and his family all the best.?

KEEP HOPE ALIVE FOOLS!!!!! DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATHE YOU WILL BE HAVING SOMEONE PICKING OUT YOUR, CASKET, SUIT OR DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I SMELL A RAT. jefferies gettin out while he can. its gettin hot in louisiana- when them "boys" come marching in the office and on campus- man, they will put the squeeze on all of them.

No wonder Spears been wearing those dark shades. :shades: Atleast Doug knew when to leave. And just think, they had to use ineligible players against Div.III Concordia College.

Spears has did nothing wrong, Jeffries did this to cause some confusion but it's gonna blow over because there was no one playing eligible, so i don't see why people on here are wishing for the worst. whats so strange is all these things just popping up so sudden hmmmmm

I don't think GSU will have to forfeit that many if any games they I think they will get some punishment for practicing with players who weren't cleared by the NCAA. I don't think this has anything to do with Jefferies I think some GSU Alumni my be behind this.

I know some of you are happy to hear this as a lot of your schools may morally benefit from this, but I don't think this duck will fly. These players never played a down, but somebody did drop the ball by leaving them on the official roster. This just gives us something to talk about during the off season. I heard talks about somebody leaking this information as retaliation against Spears and the program. That is what happens when you let outsiders (Not Spears) in the program from your in-state rival. This has gotten real dirty. Some personal things are about to surface on some people after this mess. Spears is an eye for an eye guy. No matter how the ruling will go it still won't be over. I'm chilling about the whole situation, because when people do things like this in the end they still never win.....

You know another campus fire in the right building would do alot of good right now if you know what I mean.:read: :bump:

This thing could be worst than any of us could imagine. Lets not forget that GSU was already on probation for several years in "cooking the books" and having kin folks in jobs for years. Well, don't be surprised if this becomes a more intense investigation under football. :shh:
