Grambling's label as a popular landing spot for FBS transfers rolls on.

The Tigers welcomed their fifth major FBS transfer to the roster Monday when former Tulane linebacker Edward Williams reported to campus in preparation for Friday's first practice of fall camp.

Grambling lost senior linebackers Derwin Butler and Troy Roach from the 2015 roster. Williams said he'll play a mix of middle and outside linebacker for the Tigers in their 3-3-5 scheme.

Williams joins Shy, former Ole Miss quarterback DeVante Kincade, Texas Tech safety Derrick Dixon and Texas wide receiver Montrell Meander. Former Arizona signee and New Orleans native D.J. Clark also signed with the Tigers in February.

Williams, a New Orleans native, prepped at Warren Easton, the same high school as Shy and Clark.

"Real excited ever since I came here," Williams said. "It's only been one day but I love it so far."

The connection between Williams and Grambling was two-fold. Grambling coach Broderick Fobbs originally recruited Williams at Southern Miss in 2012 when Fobbs served as the Golden Eagles' assistant.

Fobbs is also friends with former Tulane assistant and current UTSA linebackers coach Jason Rollins. Williams said Rollins helped connect the two once Williams decided on leaving Tulane.
 



Fobbs is doing a good job!!!!

1. He brought a team back where the previous they boycotted and he was one game from the SWAC Championship
2. The second year he went to the SWAC Championship
3. Now we are here.

A place where we are getting some good recruits. Fobbs applied when Doug was hired the second time....just imagine if we would have hired Fobbs instead. Yet, that is water under the bridge. Some of the players have said that if they do not win the Celebration Bowl that their season is a failure. The goals have been set.

Well yall dayum sure went out and got a whole new defense LMAO (which has been the weakest part of your team).

I'm sure thats every team goal not just Grambling
 
I don't mind a few transfers but Fobbs must not care about the high school signees.. You give those guys a glimpse of your depth chart only to bring in a boat load of transfers after they sign. You can only hope they don't leave the team or quit due to frustration. APR send help...

Looks like Fobbs is trying to win it all RIGHT NOW. He's young so if he does a pretty good job this year he might can get that head job at the FBS level in which I think he's shooting for. How may transfers did PV bring in. I know yall got some mid years

+1. I think the handwriting is on the wall, for the most part. I just hope this move doesn't screw Grambling APR/ncaa-wise like that situation w/ GaSouthern/Fritz to Tulane. That was really messy - the win right now approach.

Most don't realize that Fobbs has a large number of graduate students on the team which has helped our APR very well. I know a few who graduated in 3 years. We are good.

It's not those that harm a program, from what I've researched. It's the HSers that signed their NLIs @ the same position that could potentially transfer out/leave due to saltiness who may be the APR killas. ::read::

I think it will be ok. The key to the APR is balance. It's a given you will have those who want to leave and those who will leave but most importantly is to maintain constant progress of a larger percentage than those who feel salty. The good thing about the manner in which Fobbs recruits is that he pushes his players to have community ownership as well as being part of the team.

And by the time that hits Fobbs will be long gone and the new coach will be stuck with the APR penalties. Enjoy it now. It's a good recipe for instant success but not sustainability.

O Dayum LOL. Fobbs serious about that championship this year I see LMAO. I think the most we got is 4. Hughes definitely building for the future. We should still have enough returning talent to reel off more wins though with the staff we assembled and the new schemes. The G men got a whole new team LOL

So you think Fobbs would not leave for a FBS level school? And you do realize those schools have enough money to pay out a FCS school for a coach if they want him badly. I can't believe Fobbs signed a contract that hinders him leaving for a bigger job if that buyout is so big that it would deter folks from coming after him.

Now I do agree he aint going nowhere no time soon. Don't know what big enough FBS job that will come open that would be interested in any FCS head coach. Most want coordinators from other FBS schools to take over their program.
 
Grambling rarely plays freshmen...most redshirt unless they are on the two deep. These jucos will be there two years at most. These high school kids will play as redshirt freshmen, some will start as redshirt sophomores and so it goes. Seems that Fobbs is getting them in Grad school the same as Doug before him, Broadway before him, Spears before him, Doug before him, Coach Rob before them. We good!
