Grilling with gas vs charcoal?

I had a gas grille once, almost burned down the neighborhood because of the grease fire.......I'm partial to charcoal...nothing like charcoal with with a few peach tree twigs in there to flavor the meat.

I like both but prefer to use Charcoal the majority of the time. I like the hickory taste that charcoal provides when cooking steaks, chicken, etc.

I have always used charcoal, but I'm considering purchasing a gas grill since my new house already has a gas line run to the patio. Personally, I think the Weber 18 1/2" Kettle Grill is the best cooking device mankind has invented since the discovery of fire.

I love the flavor you get from a traditional charcoal grill, but I have had some fantastic steaks cooked on a gas grill too. But even if I do invest in a nice gas grill, I'll still keep my Weber Kettle - I just bought a brand new one the other day.:D

Which one do you prefer? Any particular brand of gas grill you'd recommend?

Not impressed with gas other than as a pilot to start charcoal quicker. Nothing like Charcoal/wood for grilling. I think it's the actual wood particles that empart a distinct flavor to meats bbq'ed on charcoal/wood.

Welp, for a new house where they are going to gas everything, if you can't beat em, join em I guess. I still favor charcoal/wood over gas/electric. Heck if you gonna have gas, why not have electrical heating elements like in an oven? (rhetorical of course)

Update . . . just bought a another brand new Weber 18 1/2" charcoal kettle grille. I guess gas will have to wait.

I buy a new one every time I've moved over the past 20 years or so, (give my old ones to my mom or friends) so this makes about the 5th or 6th one I've owned. In my opinion, they're the best thing since sliced bread.

But I still plan to eventually get me one of those big gas deals one of these days.

Actually, I bought this grill a few months ago, I just got around to putting it together. :emlaugh:
