Why is this such a big issue?
I am sure, that like any other program, we are doing everything by the book. Anything else is purely speculation. As for the the LA tops program, and the GA Hope scholorship, they are basically the same programs, and I do know that UGA has used this to its advantage on some occasions(just as LSU has), and that is coming straight from the players themselves. To what extent, I have no idea. Just as I have no idea the extent that GSU uses this with its sports programs.
One thing I can say is that the use of TOPS is not the industry standard. It is not as prevelanat as most of you may have derived from SOG's post. We have a maximum number of players we can have on scholorship, and a maximum number we can carry on a team. We are in compliance with both rules.
I think all of you are overlooking the fact that signing a player does not equal him having a football schlorship for more than one year, nor does it ensure that he ever arrives on campus. Plus Doug uses the Prop 48 players to his programs advantage. Unlike many schools, we still have open admissions(for a few more year anyway), and he is able to recruit these players who may not qualify at other schools due to accademic reasons. Because they are Prop 48 players, they may sign, but are not eligible for athletic schlorships. Therefore not counting against the available football schlorships.
Now anything else that you people come up with is just speculation at its best.
