Grambling signs 30

those props work harder than the actual team. It doesn't to take a genius to figure out if a prop is not out there working out by himself he is off the team.

Good luck with the Booker T kids. TSU signed 5 one year and only 1 remains on the team.

What kind of financial aid package does a out-of-state prop get when the school charges $10,000 a year?

SOG,

Are those "legal loopholes" unique to Louisiana???

Like I said before. Many of these kids are not on schalorships...especially the recruits from the state of LA. If you know how the system really works, you can find legal loop holes to make it work for you.

Not sure what loophole y'all are jumping throught but the state cracked down on out of state waivers along time ago. I couldn't get a waiver for my niece 5 years ago from Texas and both of her parents graduated from Southern. I think the number of waivers was a finding in Gram review. Waivers denies the university the funds it needs to operate and should be closely monitered.

No smack, but y'all legal loop holes has been exposed.

Bg,

The way I read SOG's post is that Gram is finding loopholes for in-state student athletes. I always thought the NCAA looked at that stuff as scholarships, unless they paying money back.

Whatever Gram is doing, if it's legal, props to y'all.

It is essentially the same concept LSU uses with the baseball team when Skip Bertman was the coach. He would bring the kids in to the program on Tops scholarships and would use the few athletic scholarships alloted to baseball for their top players.

BG,

Do you really have a clue what you are saying? If it is legal, that that probably means it was meant to be exposed. We ain't trying to hide nothing. If we did, why would we send out a press release indicating that 30 people have signed this year on day 1. Last year we signed 38 on day 1. If we were doing something wrong, don't you think it would have been exposed by now?

TOPS only pay tuition and you must maintain a certain gpa to remain eligible.

Well got dayum BG, doesn't an athlete need to maintain a certain GPA to remain eligible? For an in-state student, what else is there to pay for other than tuition. Depending on the type of TOPS award you get, you also get a stipend which will usually take care of other expenses such as books and housing.

You are really reaching and grabbing nothing.

One other thing...if eligible. Out of state students can also qualify for TOPS funding if they attend a Louisiana school.

No smacking, just looking for clarification

Do the other schools in LA sign 30+ players a year? If this is "legal", I'm sure the other schools would be doing this too (or are they? )

It seems to be a loophole to allow you to stockpile players. You know, sign a bunch of players and then have them funded through other sources and not count against the "scholarship" limit. I thought that was outlawed when Bear Bryant used to do that at Bama.

Is it the same as required by the NCAA for student-athletes?
I think TOPS os higher.

btw, if you read the state aduit report gram was hit for the number of waivers for out of state students, although legal but your numbers/percentage was alarming which contributed however small to your overall problems. Like transferring funds from academic to sports did.

Look, I am not expert on this subject by any means. All I am saying is that if Doug or the Athletic Department as a whole is doing something illegal (which I don't think it is) then it would have been exposed by now. Those letter of intent that student athletes sign go to the NCAA. And if there is a problem, I am sure the NCAA would let us and everyone else know about it.

So what does this all have to do with us signing 30 student athletes for football?

It seems like while other schools are bound to 63 scholarships, Grambling seems to have no real limits. With your attendance problems and overall financial difficulties, how long will the university be able to sustain this rate? Just an honest question, no smack intended.

I'm not trying to get in a pissing contest with you but I follows the administrative side of how our universities are run, including gram. You can't compare gram with lsu they operate different. Gram has an open admittance policy and no one else does. You have a large number of out of state student, you loss over half of your student body population in the last 10 years but were still operating the same. Granting waiver for out of state students. All of this eqaute to loss revenue. Now what does this have to do with the sport program? You figure that out it's your school. Save it or lose it.

Move on, I'm finished.

Again I ask, what does this have to do with us signing 30 student athletes? None of the above have anything to do with this fact.

It has to do with the football program eventually being in a situation where you're putting out more money than you're bringing in.

BTW, Does Southern take advantage of this loop-hole?

Grambling doesn't spend money on TOPS student, the state does. And I can't answer for Southern.
