While I agree that Gram needs student fees to get them a little back in line with medium SWAC budgets, it is my believe they fudged those numbers (low balled) a tad in the press.

I don't have an itemization. What I do know is the declining budget number doesn't quite jibe with what that newspaper article states. If it was an article on Valley then it might look right (still would be off though).

All I can say, the numbers reported by USAToday a few months back showed Grambling's Athletic Department experienced a net loss in recent years. From 2005 to 2012, USA Today showed Grambling had a total net loss of $2,033,767.

Per USAToday, the years highlighted in red are the years Grambling reported a net loss:

Simply put, Grambling fans need to start supporting it's football team. Selling games to FBS schools doesn't seem to be working.

That might be their football budget. There is no way that is there whole athletic department budget. Schools in NAIA have a higher budget than that. We had the next to lowest athletic budget in D1 in 2007 at 3.1 million.

That is the budget. That does not mean it's all they can spend.

As always, I have to prove to some folks that water is wet. Unlike some HBCUs, including the one in the State of Mississippi that pay a HBCU coach near or above $200k per year, Southern University have made the necessary adjustments to maintain a profit in its athletic department, which includes reducing the salary of our head football coach to some practical and reasonable amount. Paying a SWAC coach near or above $200k per year is just plain crazy for any HBCU. Also, student fees help when it comes to the Athletic budgets.

Per USAToday, from 2005 to 2012 Southern had a NET PROFIT of $9,603,022. Below are the figures reported by USAToday concerning Southern's athletic budget:

After all this time, why is GSU so dependent on taxpayer money for sports. If LA has budget issues, seems to me athletics would not be a priority.

I do believe once Grambling put in place student fees as revenue into their Athletic budget, they will be okay. I think Grambling would still have to make other adjustments to maintain a healthy Athletic Department.
