Those recruits saw him play, probably don't remember it but they saw it..but their parents saw him play in the game. That's all you need..pop in a measly tape, use your name as a connection to the NFL and bam..a kid is interested.

If GSU's name meant so much then..why did GSU decline in the 90s? Obviously they were attracting the top talent anymore so lets go out and hire a "NAME" coach.

Spears might've went out but kids went on the visits to see Doug.

I've come across several people who don't know where Grambling is. They think maybe New Orleans because all they see of them is the Bayou Classic.

Were you trying to make a point? I come across several people that don't know what teams are in the SWAC. Please don't try to compare the Grambling name to that of any HBCU or D1AA program or less. Are we talking about football recruits or maw and paw in Montana?

Let's just wait and see the signing list this year to see if it was Doug or Grambling that was getting the recruits. That will speak more volumes than that band fan's opinion. Remember he is the same person who thinks that the majors at his school is what is preventing them from competing. Or, that certain academic scholarships in a certain state prevent his schools for competing. Or, that TxSo was going to roll over for SU in the baseball tournament because it was a consprisy. Or, when...

At least they know it is in Louisiana. According to Pantro, the people at UNT thought Southern was in West Texas.

No they will not. Grumbling better be very careful or they will go back to the late Eddie Robinson days. We already see them declining barely getting over .500. The Grambling coaching decision will be pivotal and set the tempo for the next decade.

To many people I have talked with way outside the region use New Orleans as a reference point. Like Grambling is only on TV at the Bayou Classic :shame: "How far is it from New Orleans" Just imagine where they think southern is :lmao:

S.O.G. just be honest and say because Gram doesn't have that kind of money and wouldn't be allowed to by the ULL governing board anyway. Especially not before they take care of there own.

This is the very point I was making on another thread. I made this point pretty clear. MOST D1-AA schools (not just the SWAC) can't pay that type of salary because they don't have the revenue coming in to support it and not go in the red. I don't have a problem admitting this. As you well know there are other expenses that must be addressed than just the head coach's salary.

Now, why don't you be honest enough and say that SU has some of the worst facilities in the SWAC (if not the nation) because SU board had/has no clue on how to properly upgrade them.

If the facilities are to ever be upgraded, chances are Pete will NOT be around to see them happen.

With all of this talk about Pete's salary, I haven't heard any talk about increases in pay for his asst. coaches. Has this even been addressed?
 
Yes to the latter, and you know all to well the rest have been also. None of which has anything to do with the issue of making a coach the highest paid in D-IAA in the nation or if anyone else can macth that or afford to do so.
