So, what you are telling me is Marcus Spears (Southern Lab grad.) would have gone to SU if the facilities were "state of the art"?

Now you are being ridicules. Sometimes if you don't know what to say it is better to shut up.

GSUpe,

You don't lead the series so you are not getting better athletes, they are on the same par with S.U., they are afraid of S.U. athletes or you all have had a bunch of dumb coaches. Which one is it? Let me remind you that Gram has only one twice against S.U. in the last 12 years.

Im talking about legal things. Some schools may give those things but we can offer something that no school in the state can offer. We have more black women on our campus than any other school in this state. :lmao:

I will reserve my answer, but most of you can foreshadow. Even with Taj Mahal-like facilities on the Bluff, name recognition plays a role in attracting athletes. To the end of time SU will take a back seat to Grambling in this category. This is irrefutable. I read on Pantro's thread (regarding SU and UNT) that one fan stated he thought Southern was in west Texas. It will be interesting to watch the effect of SU's recruiting in Orleans and surrounding parishes with the emergence of SLU. I see the Lions as stiff competition for SU. Grambling and SU rarely recruit the same athletes (look at the signee list each year). Grambling's storied name facilitated securing key talent in Texas, Alabama, and Georgia over the years. Most of Grambling signees never even considered SU. However, Louisiana talent is fertile for all to survive. Grambling has facilities intact, so SU has to catch up. An upgrade will help the student athlete at SU, but truly Grambling and SU's recruiting philosophies have always been different. For this reason, I do not see an upgrade in facilities effecting either school. The upgrade may play a bigger picture in securing a recruit away from SLU, Nicholls, or McNeese, etc. It seems signees at Grambling and SU want to be Tigers or Jags (just like Vernon mentioned he always wanted to be a Jaguar coming out of Glen Oaks).
Please wake up out of the 70's. Eddie is no longer your coach and neither is Doug. Those names are the only reason you got recruits. Lets wait and see how good your upcoming recruiting class will be.

in and earlier post I said besides LSU. We could never out recruit LSU in this state. They don't play far. They get kids parents jobs and also tell them they won't get a job in this state unless they go to LSU. :argue2:

I really don't understand Southern fans. How are trying to hold Pete to a standard that makes no sense.?NFL Players as a requirement for a coaching job? Come on Bluedog, that makes no sense. SU is losing recruits because our facilities and commitment to our program sucks. Let's put the blame where it is. The man has won with nothing while everybody else made improvements in facilities and renewed their commitment to their program while we were giving lip service and building a press box. It's not just Pete, but look at Cador. Now that the SWAC is starting to catch up SU in baseball, 2 years from now, you will be ready to run him off. Pete doesn't owe the community ****. His job is to win football games and he has done that. We don't play in the playoffs, we have no desire to play for the 1-AA national championship, so why in the world should it be important to be ranked high in the 1-AA poll. You can't piss on the "white folks" system then want your coach to be judged by it. Pete knows that SU is jerking his chain with these promises to build facilites and he knows that in 2 years, he will not be able to get a third string running back for North Iberville with them. Continual improvements at JSU, SLU, Grambling, and the Texas Schools will rob him of his talent bases in New Orleans, and Southeast Louisiana and Houston has been gone for 3 years now. So, I don't blame the man for his concern. He will not have his facilities 3 years from now and SU will have him watching the dorm for living by then. They will find another sucker happy to say he coaches at SU and then watch him get skull drugged for 2 years until the fieldhouse (that Pete built by winning) open only to watch someone else recruit and rebuild the program with it.

We (myself included) need to get our heads out our asses and try and understand that nobody gives a damn about our politics and home grown silliness. Pete is about business and his lawyers are doing a good job of making sure that his ass is protected against what is an oblivious attempt by SU to hide the knife they are going to use to cut his throat when he doesn't get what was promised to him, and his team suffers for it.
Its a lot of little things that Pete could do to help our program. He could do things like send some of our players to visit local elementary schools , and middle schools , and even hospitals. The best recruiting tool is to make an impression on a kid when he is young. In future years if this kid is recruited by us he will always remember this Southern University player took the time out to come talk to us when I was in school. That where Lsu is killing us. They run ads on our radio stations playing their fight songs and other little things. They constanly visit schools and hospitals thru out the season. I remember when I was younger, which wasn't so long ago im only 32, you could not catch a black person in B.R. wearing LSU gear. Now I almost see as many black folks wearing purple and gold as I see wearing blue and gold.

I WISH COACH CADOR COULD BE OUR FOOTBALL COACH. :lmao:

The only reason we lose recruits is because of our workout facilities.

You should have said that then.

You obviously don't know much about our recruits huh?

Yes, We have only won twice in 12 years, but you only have a one game lead. That itself speaks volumns. You must also remember we have won twice in 4 years.

lets see what you get now since Doug is not involved. I agree Doug recruited a lot of talent. But Doug is gone now. You guys have not named a coach yet and this is the most critical part of the recruiting season.

LOL you think Doug did the bulk of our recuiting? You all don't have a coach either. Is Pete recruiting during his contract dispute?

Doug's name did most..hell...I can go to any high school wearing a GSU shirt and drop Doug Williams' name and a kid is interested.

if Spears isn't retained....those kids who committed will reopen in a heartbeat...happens all the time.

No the ICON name of GRAMBLING did all of that.

S.U. plans on being a part of the new BCS once it is created and Doug does his training under The Dean then becomes head coach.

Honestly, I think you folks are giving Doug's name too much credit. Hell, none of these recruits weren't even born when Doug played. Yeah, they probably know he is a Super Bowl MVP, but how many of these recruits can say they actually saw him play in that game? Recruiting is something that requires time and effort and not everyone can do it. Yes, Doug has an eye to spot talent, but Spears is the person who went knocking on the doors.

See Larry Kerlagan's response when he wanted to know if Spears was staying when it was known that Doug left.

Fact - When it was official that Doug was leaving Gram last year, the athletic department made contact with everyone of the signees who signed up to that point and told them that if they wanted out of their commitments we would let them do so. Guess how many people left?

SOG,

If you believe Doug "MVP" Williams name does not carry a lot of clout, then I have a parcel of crawfish infested water in Lake Ponchartrain that will make you a mulit millionaire for sale (you better hop on that deal).

After Pete retires, we need us some "star power" on the bluff so we can have a hostile take over of college football!

I didn't say it didn't carry clout...but as usual, you saw only what you wanted to.

Typical.

I understood well what you said. You are discounting the impact that Doug name has with these recruits. You put Doug on the bluff and S.U. goes to the SUper Bowl.
