Hey bluedog,

Did I miss something? We never considered Pete a serious candidate for the Grambling job. Is this information up to date or is he just blowing smoke to get his contract.... Only serious candidates need apply.

GRAMBLING ? A job listing for the position of head coach at Grambling State was posted this week ? opening up the spot for applicants from around the nation........

Pete Richardson, the winner of five Southwestern Athletic Conference titles at Southern University over 12 seasons. His name popped up when contract negotiations recently stalled at Southern.

Richardson ? who has never had a losing season in Baton Rouge, and has lost to GSU just twice during that period ? said this week that the length of his guaranteed tenure was the sticking point.

"I wanted a five-year contract ? and we didn't get that," he said. "I have other options I will have to take a look at ? and one of them might be Grambling. It would be weird, but I have to do the best thing for my family and my assistant coaches. I would like to stay here in Louisiana; I like this part of the country. Whatever offer is available, I will take a look at it."

Thats his stupid lawyers more then likely and they are really starting to tick folks here off. Think about it Thames, the ULL system gave you guys all the "L" it could about Doug's contract, you know darn well they ain't letting Gram spend over a quarter of a million on a coach.
 
I hope Grambling State consider hiring somebody like Lee Fobbs or current Toledo Linebackers'coach Dennis Winston. Grambling need to hired someone that is committed to excellence and laid smackdown on Southern in Bayou Classic.

Correction, the ULL didn't have a problem at all with what we paid Doug, they only had a problem with the wording of his contract. But I will agree with you on one thing, not only will the ULL not let Gram spend a quarter million on a coach...Dr. Judson himself will not allow Grambling to spend a quarter million on a coach. No disrespect, but Pete's ass ain't worth $250K.
 
Actually I didn't even read the article Soggy, as far as I'm concern if he's not happy with that phugg um.

On the other hand we may agree somewhat on whether he's worth it or not Soggy put for different reasons. Although his record is something like 105-38 at a .734 pct. Clip and twelve and two against the Gmen I ?d expect some other tangibles from him before making him the highest paid coach in the country.

Please explain what other tangibles? Isn't he already the highest paid coach in 1AA? I think it was between he and Billy Joe at FAMU. Of course Billy Joe was 1A last year.
 
SU just needs to come down on the price and offer him 5 years. I guess that they simply don't have the confidence that Pete can continue to win over the next 5 years. I understand why they wanted to give him 3 but unless Pete starts losing, I am sure that he could earn the other two. (unless of course, they have told him that this is his last contract regardless....which I don't understand why they would.)
 
We are thinking about making Doug an assistant coach in 3 years so Dean Richardson can groom him for the head coaching job if Wade Streeter gets the Jackson State job next year.

Bruh, you ain't got to worry about Wade Streeter in Jackson. His record won't please the JSU faithful.
 
I would rather have Pete over L.C. Cole. Doug Williams made more than the President when he was coach. So, it shouldn't be a problem for Pete to make $250,000 should he end up @ Grambling. He has proven to be a winner, and i believe he would enhance our program.

Pete is not going anywhere. We plan on putting Doug in our Master's program while he is being groomed by Dean Pete and give him a speech coach then dominate the swac for another 10-15 years. :lol: Look out America here comes the JAGS!!!

Yes it should be a problem because Gram would never pay that much to any coach.

Like putting a avg. of three players a year in the upper rounds of the NFL so we can at least have some hope of getting a return on our investment.

Like keeping the team ranked in the top ten of the nation in D-IAA during his last tenure.

Like getting off his but and doing a better public relations job for S. U.

Like getting a staff there like he had in his first years and keeping them there so we stop losing some recruits we should get.

Grambling State University should never entertain hiring Petey. Pete is a good motivator and coach, but I think he only has a good 2 - 3 years remaining. Besides I want his azz at SU when we beat them the next three years.

make sure it's not the same speech coach that's "helping" Pete...How much does it take to teach a guy to close his eyes when speaking and repeatedly using the words "individual" and "aspect" regardless of the discussion. It was embrassing watching Pete on national TV during the BC segments...dude closes his eyes everytime he answers questions. Does he have a speech impediment or something?

Whoa BD, now I will give you 2,3 and 4, but NO coach - I don't care what school he coaches for - should ever be held accoutable for putting players in the NFL. That is not what a coach is hired for.

How much was Doug Williams making before he left Grambling? I can't recall the exact number but i think it was over $250,000. I think he was the hightest paid coach in the sorry arse SWAC. If my memory is correct, it was Doug, then Billy Owens, then the President as far as who made the most.

If you want to be the highest paid coach in all of football and your last outer conf. records look like squat, you'd better learn how to do it.

Besides, we were putting more then that in the NFL during the Marino Casem and Gerald Kimble days. Anyway that would be my criteria.

Don't get mad at the world because we "fixin" to take Doug and put him on the map again! :lol: We gonna put that "S" on his chest and make him kick y'all butt after we build our field house and put Dean Pete's name on it. If Pete closed his eyes while he was being interviewed, he must have been using his powerful mind and discernment ability to say the correct thing and not hurt the less privileged. You are the type of "individual" that don't understand certain "aspects" of being a dean. :lol: If you are concerned about Doug becoming the SUccessor of Pete just say so and we will understand. :lol:
