Band director allegedly drunk at game

Thursday, October 06, 2005
FORT WORTH (AP) - A Fort Worth high school band director has resigned amid allegations that he was drunk and yelled obscenities during a college football game last weekend.

The Fort Worth school district also alleges Dunbar High band director Adrain Bonner also allegedly had pornography on his school computer.

District documents show Grambling State University's band director and a band member filed complaints Monday against Bonner. They say he yelled at the Grambling marching band after a halftime performance for the Grambling State-Prairie View A&M football game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Saturday night. :smh:

The 28-year-old Bonner's resume lists him as a Grambling graduate and former drum major of the band. The district says Bonner admits his behavior at the game was unacceptable but denied drug usage and threats.

No comment yet from Bonner.

I assume gramuntildeath will be just as interested in calling up people to dig into this story as he was with PV's business.

:shame: At issue was his behavior at Saturday's game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas between Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M University. Mr. Bonner graduated from Grambling in 2000 and was in the band program, according to his transcripts and resume.

Mr. Bonner, 28, was accused of being intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, using profane language toward Grambling band members, confronting the band director, assaulting a Grambling student and threatening to kill a female band member, district records show. He also reportedly followed band members to their hotel and continued to cause problems.

A Grambling student and two staff members filed written complaints with the Fort Worth district Monday.

Why would "having pornagraphy on his computer" be in this article????

He was probally yelling at GSU for being so SLAW and got DRUNK with anger.

I wouldnt have resigned.... hell he wasnt on the clock and he wasnt respresenting his band or school system there..

Always remember
Don't believe everthing you here
That article is far from the truth
If you don't know
Don't make an ASSumption

^^^Yes please do...
[reciprocity]
Why would the article talk about a drunken arse band director from GSU cursing out GSU's band if that wasn't the case? Tell us GSU what was going on. :shame:
[/reciprocity]

Was he really just that upset with the halftime. :)

The truth... I'm from Fort Worth and was told the story yesterday....

After Halftime of the game last saturday, the guy in question was yelling at the band for they TRASH(i.e. musical performance) displayed on the field. Some of the directors were getting upset because he kept cussing the band members out. The members of the band were saying, "He's drunk, and he may be high.." So on monday, some of the directors and students filed complaints toward the FWISD that a director of the band was acting in a manor that was demeaning to his program and the entire ISD. So FWISD went to Dunbar(His school) to investigate him and see if he was doing anything that was out of conduct in his program. They looked at files in his computer and also asked him to take a drug test. He declined to take the test and was asked to resign instead of termination.

....That's the story, and I'm sticking to it.

My opinion, this whole incident was uncalled for. Which old band member of any program returns to a game without some......umm....assistance, expecially the Cotton Bowl Classic. True enough, the halftime performance was not up to par, and I'm pretty sure Gram knew it. But to call the ISD of a Alumni member, and former drum major, who has become successful is CRAZY. Of course I go to PV, but I rep Fort Worth to the fullest. I went to a rival school but praise should go to those who earn it. He turned that band program around from maybe 30 members to over 130. Yeah, he may have been out of line for the incident but this is truly out of line.... especially from his alma mater.

Please don't associate the actions of a drunk ignorant fuc_er to all Grambling grads. Sometimes it's best to just say NO!!!

If the last story is true... Grambling band directors should be ashamed of themselves.... It was the following Monday... the incident was OVER... nobody was hurt.... just leave it alone.

They should've been ashamed of themselves a LONG time ago...

But I digress...

If the guy was making physical threats to the young ladies in the band and followed them to the bus and hotel, then I have no problem with what they did.

Former band director says allegations false

By Amie Streater

Former Dunbar High School band director Adrain D. Bonner wants his job back and disputes the details of written complaints that led to his resignation this week, his lawyer said Thursday.

Bonner, 28, resigned Tuesday, Fort Worth district officials said, after complaints filed against him over an incident at the Cotton Bowl last weekend led to the discovery of "inappropriate" e-mails on his school computer.

A member of the Grambling State University band filed a complaint with the school district Monday accusing Bonner of calling band members obscene names and of threatening to kill her.

Grambling student Rosalyn Wheatley said Bonner, a graduate of the Louisiana university and a former drum major for the band, was unhappy with the band's performance at the game :smh: and became "very disrespectful" and was cursing at them.

Grambling band director Larry Pannell filed a similar complaint.

Bonner's attorney, Mike Ware, said Bonner was following tradition when he critiqued the band.

"They have a rich tradition, and one of those traditions is that alumni will come up and critique the band's performance," Ware said Thursday. "That is what Mr. Bonner was doing. It is a recognized tradition. I guess that is what started this unfortunate incident."

Ware also denied allegations that Bonner was drunk or on drugs, as the complaints alleged.

"He was neither drunk nor high on drugs. That is just not true at all," Ware said. "I'm sure if he had been, the police would have arrested him, which they did not do."

Hell, I should be on death row for what I did after the Texas Southern vs Stillman game a few years back.

That's how it was told to us last night. Terrible and shameful. I know Bonner knows better than this. :smh:

One bad apple doesn't represent the school, so...
