Mark Jackson fired by Warriors

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Golden State Warriors have fired Mark Jackson, ending the franchise's most successful coaching tenure in the past two decades but also one filled with drama and distractions.

General manager Bob Myers thanked Jackson in a statement Tuesday for "his role in helping elevate this team into a better position than it was when he arrived nearly 36 months ago." Myers said it was a difficult decision but the Warriors "simply feel it's best to move in a different direction at this time."

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Sunday that Steve Kerr and Stan Van Gundy would be at the top of Golden State's search list if Jackson were fired. The Warriors are also expected to speak with former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, league sources told ESPN.

Sources close to the situation say the New York Knicks remain the favorites to land Kerr, thanks to the TNT broadcaster's close ties to new team president Phil Jackson. But Kerr also has strong relationships with Warriors owner Joe Lacob and team president Rick Welts, with whom he worked in Phoenix.

I hope the Lakers can get one of 'em. Maybe the Warriors can get D'Antonio so they can be sorry again. Jackson lead the Warriors to their best record in decades and they just fire him? That was just as dumb as the Lakers hiring D'Antonio.

Apparently the relationship between the front office and Jackson was frayed. Ironically, a similar relationship might drive Thibs away from Chicago, as we've heard his name being thrown around as a candidate for jobs.

This has to be a personality situation. Unfortunately, the most competent person in the real world doesn't always get or keep the position because of the aforementioned. Obviously, this was a DUMB decision though.

Weren't two Warriors assistant coaches fired earlier this season...including one right before the playoffs began? And one of those coaches was secretly recording coaches meetings...hmmmm...

nuts........some really good coaches are out of work Lionel Hollins, and now Mark Jackson

That's the first person that came to mind... didn't he have Memphis in the WCF (or semis) last year and still out of work.

Someone brought it up on TV yesterday and it's sad to say but I think D'Antoni could end up in Golden State or back in the NBA before any of those black coaches.

Not only the front office, but Jackson's coaching staff was in flux. He fired multiple assistant coaches this year, which is unheard of during the regular season. He fired one guy that was only on the job a few months. You can't do that shat and expect to keep your job.

D'Antoni would be a good fit for Golden State given his style of coaching and their personnel. All offense, run and gun, put up a lot of shots with minimum defense.

Yeah it was crazy to see a coach come so close to taking his team to the NBA finals and still get fired.

I think it was Whitlock or someone that mentioned that Jackson (a strong Christian) bumped heads with one of the son in laws of the owners in the front office who is gay. Yeah I can see now why he lost his job lol

It's being reported that he has shown interest in the Lakers and Pistons jobs. I know the Lakers won't do it but the Pistons need to lock him in the building and not let him out until they hire him
