How did Gentry Indianola win 80 straight games and tie the Mississippi state record for consecutive wins... Also they were ranked #20 in the USA Today poll. They played Bob Jones High from Madison (HSV suburb) in a prestigious tournament in (Tmobile Invitational) at Ball State and got WRECKED 47-18... and to think Bob Jones isnt even the top team in their area. Mississippi girls bball use to be tough when I was in school (the Murrah teams). This tournament has some of the top players in the nation

http://www.t-mobileinvitational.com/ The finals can be seen on CSTV.

I think Gentry is a lower division school but I dont keep up with them enough to really answer your question. I will ask my girlfriend's dad about the team, he works their.

from what I read on the website.... they are 4a... but they won the Mississippi Cup against 5a Murrah last year. Alabama doesnt have any games after state championships like Mississippi. I like the way its set up in Mississippi, with state championships teams having a tournament... but in Alabama it wouldnt be close. In girls, the top 6a team is 40 points better than the best 5a team... in boys basketball its the total opposite.... most of the inner city schools are 5a and the mega white boy schools are 6a. Bob Jones is one of the largest schools in the state. It has over 2500 students in 10th-12th grade. It was built for 9-12th but population the area grew soon as the new school opened so they had to make it a 10th-12th.

Man, Gentry got their azzes handed to them by Greenville-Weston during that Thanksgiving holiday. That 80 game streak was over way before Bob Jones got a hold of them.

Dahill, it was just time to end. The best players have moved on. The last 2 seasons, Gentry was, without a doubt, the best girls team in Mississippi, followed closely by Murrah. But Gentry does not have it this year. They are nowhere near the best this season. Murrah, Warren Central, Lanier, Greenville-Weston are amongst the best this year. Which one of those is best is beyond me. But the 2 prior seasons, Gentry dominated 4A and then beat 5A champ twice in the overall tourney in close exciting games. Last year was a 2OT thriller.

They lost Veronica Walker aka "The Big Ticket" to graduation. The year before that, they lost at least one other Dandy Dozen girl. It was just the end of a dynasty that's all.

A lot of people don't understand that MS does not have basketball and football factories (Murrah's Girls and Lanier's Boys and Piney Wood's Boys were headed that way but the MHSAA put a stop to that).

MS is made up of small towns and once in a while, a town will have a good string of athletes come through. They don't have a large pool of athletes to choose from like most schools. If you look at South Panola's football roster, you'll see the same 5 or 6 last names year after year. Most of those guys live in the community.

Gentry is not as good as they have been the last 3 year's.
For the last 3 year's, Gentry was kicking everybody's arse IN STATE and OUT OF STATE.
The last of the dominate player's on that team graduated last year.
They broke Murrah's heart the last couple of years in the championship and then won the Battle of the State Champion's after the state tournament was over.
All of Mississippi's State Champ's play, (1a thru 5a), a tournament to see who's the best of all after the STATE Tournament.

1. Murrah (10-0) 1

2. Warren Central (11-0) 2

3. H.W. Byers (15-0) 4

4. South Panola (8-0) 6

5. Harrison Central (9-0) 7

6. Tupelo (11-1) 5

7. Yazoo County (12-2) 9

8. Lanier (10-1) 8

9. Northeast Jones (10-1) 10

10. Gentry (8-2) 3

Dropped out

Dahill everyone has nailed it. Players

You guys forgot they lost there best player two season ago and she now plays for delta state. So that is not the same team they got their ranking based off the last three years.

all the excuses, but 47-18 is some kind of ugly. Way to go Bama school.
:lol::lol:

seriously,

I don't like that idea.

Trust me MH.
That is a good tournament to watch.:)
That one is held in Meridian.
It started out year's ago with just the 4a and 5a championship boy's team's from Murrah when they had Othelo Harrington, Ronnie henderson, Jessie Pate, etc, and Lawrence County team had Vandell Thomas, Eric Dampier, etc.
Lawrence County(4A) beat the unbeatable MURRAH at JSU's AAC after the state tournament and it snowballed from there.

There were boy's championship team's that swore they could beat Jackson Lanier(4A), Jackson Murrah(5A), and Jackson Provine(5A) but never got the chance to play them.
Needless to say on the boy's end, Lanier, Murrah, and Provine has dominated the SILVER BALL Tournament.
I don't think another boy's team has beaten a Jackson School since Lawrence county did it.

Then all the championship girl's team's wanted a peice of Murrah(5A).
When girl's team's like Gentry, Choctaw Central, etc started rolling, they just made a best of the best tournament.

I bet it is good to watch. But for me, I think when you win the state championship, that's the top, the pinnacle. Season should be over, you go out on top.

with this champions tournament, all the state "champions" seasons ended on a sour note, other than the ONE team who won the tournament.

Not really.
Those kid's and fan's have a good time.
Everybody including the school's and player's just like the idea of all classes going head to head in one last battle.

IT'S RAW DAWG COMPETITION IN MISSISSIPPI.

Don't pay mh no mind. He hates anything Mississippi. He probably still mad from that spanking Lanier put on SW Gwinett a few years ago.

OUCH!!

Bet they still hate this guy:

Strong willed and refuse to lose.

Strong-willed, "refuse to lose," Monta Ellis led his Jackson, Miss., Lanier High School team to a thrilling, come from behind win over Snellville, Ga., South Gwinnett High School, and their star guard, Louis Williams, in a matchup of the nation's two best senior guards Saturday night in Jackson, Miss.

IMO, i think Murrah Girls is the best basketball team in MS this year, they will get stronger once that PG come back from injury. She should return friday, when they play provine.

They shoudln't have any problems winning it all this year.

You right, they shouldnt, if coach jackson dont screw up like she did last year in Grand Slam, I think its time for her to retire, and let that assistant take over the job.
