ATLANTA - Georgia's Supreme Court on Friday ordered the release a young man who was imprisoned for having consensual oral sex with another teenager.

The court ruled 4-3 that Genarlow Wilson's 10-year sentence was cruel and unusual punishment.

The Georgia Supreme Court on Friday ordered the release of Genarlow Wilson, the Douglas County teenager who has been serving a controversial 10-year sentence for consensual oral sex.

The court's 4-3 decision upholds a Monroe County judge's ruling that the sentence constituted cruel and unusual punishment under both the Georgia and U.S. constitutions.

It's great to see this young man finally released from this absurd abuse of power by the prosecutor and DA. But someone correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not party to all the details of the case, but all this motion did was grant his release. Without some change in the law or the prosecution changing is conviction to a misdemeanor or throwing it out entirely, isn't he still going to have to register as a sex offender?
