STATESBORO — Georgia Southern starting quarterback Shai Werts and defensive end Quan Griffin were arrested this week in separate incidents and are suspended from all football activities, Georgia Southern said in a statement on Friday, Aug. 2.

According to the statement read before the first practice of fall camp by head coach Chad Lunsford, Werts was arrested during a traffic stop on Wednesday evening in Saluda, S.C. He was charged with speeding and misdemeanor possession of cocaine. Griffin was arrested on Thursday in Bradford County, Fla., in connection with a domestic incident.

The incident report from the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office was obtained by the Savannah Morning News on Friday through the South Carolina open records law. According to the report, Werts’ 2016 silver Dodge Charger was originally seen speeding “on Chappells Highway near John J. Rushton Rd. in the county of Saluda.”

After “driving several miles” while police were pursuing the car with sirens and flashing lights on, Werts pulled over his automobile.

Misdemeanor cocaine possession? Of so many things to do that aren't law abiding, HOW is that POSSIBLY your choice? 🤔

I despise georgia southern the university but I DO love looking at their offense in motion - the OL blocking, the ATTACKING QB, the commitment by WRs during blocks, the fakes/options, et al. It all looks so... familiar. Hmmmmmm.... @pvdogteam Are you all ready? :D

Nobody:
Absolutely nobody:
And I do mean, NEAUXBAHDEE: 😐
Him: "I got it. I'm gonna do SOMETHING with...cocaine."
Police: "say no more, fam"

The real story of the case is that police are still using a drug test that is frequently wrong despite recommendations to stop for 5 decades. I can only imagine the number of people sitting in jail right now based on this one test.

So, it was bird isht on his windshield? Who would have thought someone would spread cocaine on their car hood and windshield?

Oh OK. Well in that case, bad on the police as usual. Hope he gets on the field in time for Prairie View. I'm sure the pAnther faithful will be delighted to compete against a strong and healthy opponent worthy of the competition. He should feel motivated to suit up against the Panthers after this. I might have a friend send a tweet that after his arrest, the Panthers don't eem respect him as an athlete, a qb and a leader. Long live sport! 👍🙌🏿

Oh wait... That's UofH I'm thinking of. Durn. Lemme tell that friend where to send that "respect" tweet. Hopefully I can catch him to get er done before the Panthers face off against the Cougars. I wouldn't want the Panthers and their attacking qb to face unhyped competition from those pesky 3rd ward coogs...
