Gays on HBCU campuses.

I am not on an HBCU campus, but I don't need to be to answer the first half of this question.

When we understand that no demographic is totally accepted anywhere. Blacks aren't totally accepted on HBCU campuses!

Are homosexuals harrassed? With human nature being what it is, we can make a pretty good guess in the affirmative. I think a more interesting question might be whether homosexuals are harrassing heterosexuals on HBCU campuses. I say of a certainty that it is happening in HS's where I live.

I never would imagine homosexuals harrassing heterosexuals. I would have to ask, though, what do you mean by harrassing? Simply making come-ons? By harrassing I meant ridiculing and/or physically beating up. Then again, is it all good and there's no big deal?

When I was in college back in the 70's, we knew who was gay and who wasn't and they hung with their gay friends. We interacted in classes the same as if there was no difference.Once in a while you would hear a straight person make a snide remark about a gay person who had done or said something either funny or unusual in our presence. But it was never loud enough for everyone to share the joke. There's always going to be some of that though.I never heard of any major anti-gay sentiment or movement on campus at FVSU during those years.

I remember at Grambling we had these Gay dudes who were cheeleaders. Well one day in the dorm room some guys were harrassing them. Well the little gay dude whooped all of their ARSEs....thug style. They ended the harrassment on Grambling's campus.

:lmao: :lmao: THAT is too funny.

(off topic) I remember there was this guy in the neighborhood when I was a kid in the 70s. He was the guy that was always doing the girls hair in the neighborhood, was called a "sissy" by most folks, cross-dressed at 2-3 in the morning, etc. He was known to have suprised several brothas dat thought they was gonna pick on him in front of friends.

That was Tuskegee for the most part in the early 80s. I remember there were openly gay guys (and females) in Job Corps when it was on campus in Tuskegee and they had most of their problems within their ranks. As you say, even though they were known to many, no one made a big thing of it or confronted them in public for no reason.

Have You not heard about the stories from Morhouse and other HBCU campus where many gays get beat up jes because they are gay or they are SUSPECTED to be gay?

no they are accepted totally yet, but either they will be in the future or it will jes continue to be the way it is...

some accept them and most don't, hopefully the crime commited against them will demolish...

I did not know that. yes, "hopefully the crimes commited against them will demolish..." as you say.

Sweet Nupe, I think I remember that incident. It was funny. I used to see a lot of the gay cheerleaders walking around campus in daisy dukes.

I believe that homosexual individuals are partially accepted. Of those that don't accept them, it is a combination of people who are homophobic and those that believe it goes against Christian belief.

Are there any instances where being homophobic is justified?

I don't think gays are harassed on my campus. I dance for the basketball team and there is a dude dancing with us. He's pretty good and he doesn't get harassed. Anyway, no one righteously harasses gay people down here

Man, I remember when I first got to Texas Southern there was this one dude that used to rock the hayle outta this midrift, all of us Girls used to HATE him... I never had a stomach that flat... :( I never heard too much about the Gays on our campus being Harrassed. I guess there is a level of co-existence to an extent. There are those that turn there nose up at the lifestyle and whatnot...Myself included... but I guess I have to say to each his/her own. Not my life....

My first year at Alcorn a couple of gay guys had gas poured under their doors and set their rooms on fire. Luckily nobody was hurt and there was just smoke damage. I think that went just a lil bit too far. There are plenty of them out here now including girls. And the funny thing is, most of them are people who you would never expect to go that way. The put on one personality in public and completely flipp the script behind closed doors. Bi-Sexuals are large in numer on tha yard.

Dang man.... What year was that? My cousin graduated from Alcorn in 96 or 97. He was/is gay... And He lived on campus. Then again, who doesn't live on campus?

Back in 96-97 a gay guy here was beaten and killed in the dorm. The guys that did it burnt down the dorm with the corpse inside.

I wouldn't say that gays on this campus are harassed now but you can tell heterosexual guys don't like to co-exist with them.

ATLANTA to me has an abundant amount of GAYS/LESBIANS!

We got alot in Montrose here in Houston and Houston is BIGGER than ATL. (Nothing against ATL at all though)

I don't see much anti-gay activity here at TSU. From time to time someone may make a mean comment. But then in the music building I've seen some gays make snide remarks and comments and even ridicule straight people out of the blue too. Being gay does not go against Christianity. (defending my cousin here) Being gay is a sin just like fornication. No one has a right to put their hands on you or say something mean to you without expecting the same in my opinion. Gay or bi or straight, someone bothers you physically cuz you're whatever you are then please make sure they will always think THRICE before doing that again.:redhot:

So you are of the opinion that sin is "digital" not "analogue"??
If being gay and foricating are both sins, then are they morally equivalent???.

No. But neither is more morally "correct" than the other. The reason for this is that we can be forgiven of our sins. "Let he who casts the first stone...." Really, if being gay is the first stone then where do we stand with everyday sin as well? Sexual orientation in my opinion is simply that.....sexual orientation. If you're a Christian then not only is it wrong to be that way but it's also wrong to persecute and preach for those who do and still fornicate, adulterate, lie, and mistreat children. If Christ was so against the Pharisees and the Saducees because of their hypocrisy then why are we any different in our human nature? Is it better to judge and condemn someone based on sexual orientation than it is to judge on those who are overly promiscuous and exclusively heterosexual?

And on a non-religious note: Our mores tend to focus our attention on what we may perceive as "immoral" more than our actual study of our religion does.

You can't say "no", but then say neither is more "moral" and say you are not arguing moral equivalency. I'd say you are arguing they are morally equivalent. If you argue moral equivalency in this case, do you apply ME to everything? Then what about child molestation, or sex with animals, or going Jeffery Dalmer on 20 or 30 peeps??? Is stuff like that equivalent to telling a lie??
Humans have developed the largest brains that we know of and we can rationalize concepts like moral equivalence, but what about natural equivalence??? Would you contend that a gay lifestyle is naturally equivalent to being heterosexually promiscuous?
Yeah but simply preaching that a gay lifestyle is wrong and advising against it is not "wrong". If you round up gays and kill them or something, beat them up,,, that's wrong. Even if you confront them verbally,,,, one could argue that you are not doing unto others as you would have them do unto you (which by the way would explain the actions of Christ perhaps). Christ still preached against all sins, but he didn't gas/kill gays or anything.
Morals, yes, are more of a man-made concept THAT HAVE FOUNDATIONS IN RELIGION, but have been augmented by natural and human law, so the relevence of "morals" is significant, and indeed central to such an issue.
Not to come off as a bible thumper mind you, cause i'm not by a long stretch.

I'm only 22 so my views albeit are young and may be subject to change somewhat the older I become.

That was the point I was making. From a scientific point of view though, I would consider homosexual promiscuity natural but not found often. Ever heard of cows called "free-martins"? It happens. I included mores because, yes, of course they are significant and central to the subject and because I'm also not a Bible "thumper". However, not all mres or morals we have are necessarily universal (to me). Why? We wouldn't have democracy....hence the lie that Plato gets to in his republic about which government is better. There is no social contract. There are those who are privileged, those who have not, those who have and those who are shrewd. In my honest opinion, those who are homosexual are no worse sinners than those who murder.
