Bulldog Fan/Supporter
I have not been the biggest supporter of Vlad but, I just could not ignore this interview because I've been a such a fan of Fred Williamson and his movies. He shared a lot of interesting information and life lessons. One story that wowed me was about that classic music joint by Bill Withers, "Who is He and What is He to You." Aside from the wicked bassline that amazed my ears as a kid listening to it, the lyrics actually referenced a real-life situation (possibly) between Fred, Bill, and the one and only actress Denise Nicholas whom Bill was married to at one time. Man, Lord knows I loved her energy on the screen back in the day. I always felt she was probably an amazing woman in real life. Another thought was his mentioning of how he stayed away from comedic roles because he felt it would down his image. He used Burt Reynolds as an example. We know Burt Reynolds did go hard in his more serious roles like Sharky's Machine or The Longest Yard, but Fred felt that Burt's continued roles in comedy kind of took away from his mystique. To a sense I agree and disagree because one could debate that comedic role actually made Burt well rounded but yes, I respect Burt's acting more for the serious ones. More I could say about this in another thread on effective ways for a Black Man to navigate a white corporate work world structure without trying to look silly and stupid.
Anyhow, seems like Fred has taken care of himself well. He's mind seems to still be sharp. He also shares his unique foray from Track to College Football and then the NFL, including being knocked out in the very first SuperBowl ("They took out the Hammer"). Much respect...
