For the good of BCF

Move the BD & TDC to labor day weekend so our best HBCU's can participate in the playoffs and bring home the gold. The games would not suffer and it would increase our presence in the postseason. The SWAC could keep the SCG and move it up too. This would give the game some meaning and possibly make it bigger.Only FAMU and CSU have been able to bring home the gold but GSU has the potential to win it all.JSU with a new coach could go deep as well but they are locked into this SCG or bust mentality of the SWAC.Hopefully we can find a way to keep our traditions and win championships.

Dude,

You might as well just wait for a good strong wind, go outside, clear your throat real good, and spit.

If you have been reading this board, it should be clear that most of us care nothing about the playoffs. The SWAC conference apparently have decided to go in a different direction. I applaude the decision to establish the SWAC Championship Game. If some SWAC team does not make the championship game, but get invited to the playoff, it is that team's decision to go. The playoff, for black schools, is nothing but a way for the white schools to make money off the large black crowds that follow some black schools. There is nothing in it for the black schools.

Did you see the point in the SEC title game last year? LSU and Tennessee had already played each other also.

It is to have an extra game that is appealing to SWAC fans and to make additional money to be split between the schools.

Unknown what some people fail to realize is that the big 1a schools can afford to have this because it there is usually a major bowl birth on the line as well as a huge payday but for the SWAC all you have is bragging rights and a much smaller check. If this was for a playoff berth or even better 2 teams battling for a higher playoff seeding then it would make perfect sense. How much do the SCG participants amke anyways.

The SCG would make more sense if there was a lucrative bowl game waiting for the winner. But due to the timing and all, there is nothing waiting on the winner, which is sad. I refuse to believe that Grambling would rather play A&M(again) in a snooze fest instead of taking its title and making a run in the D-1AA playoffs. In my opinion, they've already won the Swac Championship, why waist time in a meaningless game? Everyone keeps talking about money, what's the payoff for the teams involved and the conference as a whole? And what about the lack of exposure for the game? No one outside the conference even cares about the game. We can't even get the game shown on ESPN2 or Fox Sports Net.

People are always speaking on HBCU's participating in 1-AA playoffs. HBCU's are ALWAYS put in situations where they have to play on the road, lower seeds, etc - regardless of records. The only recent game I can remember a HBCU hosting a game is the year Tn. St. U hosted a first round game - but then they were matched up with NC A&T, making sure one HBCU was going to be eliminated. (FAMU was also in that year - and on the road - that was the year they beat Troy State in Troy). And please dont overlook the Div II playoffs either - again, SIAC and CIAA teams are on the road - ALWAYS. It is a set-up to these teams to lose, and there is absolutely ZERO money potential in this situation, any few dollars that might be realized has to be turned around to pay for playoff expenses, which tend to leave schools - not only HBCU's but most teams in D-1AA playoffs - in the red.

HBCU's get no respect from the NCAA - and this is not to say we need to leave or anything of the sort - but look at our other sports that are D-1A. How are we seeded in the NCAA Tourney? Regardless of records. We can't get major D1 teams to play us home and home - now the selection committee is saying mid majors need to play mid majors and that will help strength of schedules - I mean it is a constant "change of the rules and playing field", as soon as we do one thing and get it correct, they switch directions. I dont follow baseball that much - but I do know that we also never host regionals when it comes to the post season.

So why not do what is in the best interest of "our" schools - as long as it is within the "rules" set up by the NCAA? Turkey Day Classic and Bayou Classic provide great revenue for the schools participating. Why should "we" move our games when we know this is a steady stream of revenue EVERY YEAR for a possible chance that we might a playoff team - with absolutely no chance at making anywhere near the kind of revenue that is associated with those 2 classic games?

If the Div-1AA playoffs suddenly get a MAJOR TV contract that will televise all rounds of the playoffs, get MAJOR outside sponsorships that will make the playoff - if not profitable at least a break-even venture, then it might change the opinions of a lot of people. But until that point, things are going to remain the same. Oh yea for those that have used the fact that the SWAC has lead D-1AA in attendance over the last 20+ years - that still has not given us opportunities to host games.

As for the SCG, folks act as if this has been around 30 years or something. This year will be only the 4 SCG. Give it a few more years to grow - even if not here in Bham, but this game does give players and schools to win a championship on the playing field and I think that is important. How many people really remember who FAMU has played and lost to in the playoffs, versus how many people remember who played in and won in the SCG?

BISON-2K1,

Logistically your suggestion has several hurdles to overcome.

I really think it is a logistically nightmare to realistically believe that it would be beneficial for Southern University and Grambling State University to change the date of the Bayou Classic and risk the chance of losing the national television broadcast (exposure) and additional revenue that is generated fromsuch exposure to have a chance to participate in the NCAA Division I AA Play-offs.

Timing wise, there is not enough NCAA calendar time to schedule a SCG before the NCAA Division I AA Play-offs without requiring everyteam in the SWAC to shorted their regular season by one same similar to the CIAA format for their football conference schedules and championship game.

Think about it in terms of running a business.

It also should be noted that the SWAC Championship Game does not preclude Grambling State University from participating in the NCAA Division I AA Play-offs, it is the Bayou Classicn for those that discuss the SCG. Nor will it preclude Alcorn State University or Jackson State University from gaining a NCAA Division I AA Play-off bid this season. The record of Alcorn State University and Jackson State University have precluded themselves from earning a bid to the NCAA Division I AA Play-offs.

Black College Sports needs a third NCAA Division I AA/Division I conference which would consist of several of the current SIAC members. In lue of regional consideration it would generate additional revenue in terms of several match-ups that could exist between the MEAC and SWAC versus the new southeastern region BCF NCAA Division I AA/Division I conference, that current do not exist.

Because of the logistics of NCAA Division I AA/Division I programs participating in games between NCAA Division II programs. If this newly formed conference also created a championship game, then it would naturally generate more interest in a BCF NCAA Division I AA Bowl game between to the champions of each conference.

Do you think that another HBCU conference would really form? I think it would be a good idea especially since the SWAC is hurting itself with so many football teams that we can't even schedule non-conference games. It might be a good idea for AAMU and AlaState to leave the SWAC since they have no real history with the conference anyway and form a new conference with possibly FAMU, BCC, Tuskegee and one or two other D2 schools--or even South Carolina State, MoBrown(if they can maintain a program) and Savannah State.

I think that would make a very decent and interesting conference. We could then forgo the championship game and either go to the playoffs or bring back the Heritage Bowl but have it in Bham in place of the SCG.

What has history done for your team here as of late?

I guess when your Donna Karan @sses can't get to the SCG, you make comments like this.

More assininity and buffoonery from the supreme @ss and buffoon! You must be going for a record! :smh:

Maybe TP wants A&M and Bama State to leave the conference so that JSU can have an easy road to the SWAC Champ. Game.

majiksity, I agree.<br>The SGC is not worth a lot, but them damn playoff are worth a lot less. If you take them playoff's and put them next to a pot of piss, the pot would probably be worth more. You only jock the playoff's if you thing Y. T. 's water is colder. THe real purpose of the playoff's is to passify the 1AA schools and keep them away from that BCS bowl structure. In order to keep them out of the Big bowls, the ncaa had to give them something to do (unlike the NCAA basketball tourny, where the little guys make good tune up games in the first round)<br> The D1AA playoffs get no respect, little TV, and loses (read this right not make, not break even) money for most participants. I would not be suprised if the Bayou Classic and SCG together make more money and more TV exposure than the entire playoffs.<br><br>WAKE UP, THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW INSTANCES WERE HBCU HAVE SOMETHING BETTER, IF THEY WOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE (If the NCAA would let them)
IF all the Black SCHOOLS would Co operate, during Y. T. 's playoffs, and 2 round playoff between the top 4 HBCU's, THe winner of the SWAC, MEAC, SIAC, and an at large team (best of the rest) First round game at the Home field of the SWAC and MEAC team. CHampionship Game in a DOme, Georga or New ORleans. Now which do you think would be higher attended and get a better TV deal??? IF (in your words) "Grambling playing A&M(again) in a snooze fest" Draws 30,000 plus, just think what the potential is .<br><br>FInnally, let revist in a few weeks and see how many playoff game outdraw the SCG, or how many 1AA games period.<br><br>
best HBCU's can participate in the playoffs and bring home the gold.
We would get it home and find out we won fool's gold and it aint worth the 5 long bus trips we had to take to get it.

You losers are not in JSU's way. Hughes is. Stay if you want, you will never win a title. In a new conference with Tuskegee, FAMU and BCC, you would never win the title either so it won't really matter.

You think that we would not win a title in a new conference? You also think, however, that you will never win a title as long as we are in the SWAC. Your trick is to get us to leave. That won't help you, either. Alcorn and Valley are about to supplant Jenny Sue as the dominant forces for third and fourth places in the East Division. What are you going to do about that? Ask them to leave the conference also?

Give it up, TP. Your program is not simply on the decline; it has disintegrated into Pop Warner league status. Jenny Sue would be better off in the long run if she acknowledged this, and simply worked hard to restore a semblance of respectibility. Right now, just the mere mention of Jenny Sue evokes jokes and horrow stories.

AAMU is only 1.5 games from winning the SCG (.5 is APB). Anthing can happen on a giving day. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. A&M may have the best Defense in the SWAC and that my friend wins championships. Grambling better not go to the SCG half stepping.

So if we were respectable, how many TD's would we beat you by then?

I thought that you have been saying all season that JSU was more than respectable. In fact, you have saying that JSU was great. Well, your great team beat us by 2 points. That should answer your question.

No, I'm not... You tried to make a point by saying that your don't see the point of a title game if the teams have already played each other. The same can be said about every title game in every conference with one. Making that point mute... Now, if you want to go in another direction with why you don't see the point then do that. Otherwise... That arguement has no merit.

What's really good for the good of BCF!

:) You gotta be kidding, give up money making classics for an playoff system that does not make any money because of no major TV deal and no Major Sponsor. Yea right! Majiksity hit right on the head and is telling the Gosple truth on this subject. Fayetteville St. will play this weekend on the road of course, and will lose because the NCAA does not respect Black College Football teams and the white schools will not want to come to us for an first round game. Fayetteville St. will be one and out and come home with no money like always. Who ever represent the MEAC in the Div I-AA Playoffs in two weeks. Will be one and done and come home with no money of course. Even if BCC finishes
10-1, they will still not get an first round home game and by the time they come back home. They will do good to break even money wise. What's good for Black College Football is our own playoff system. We have two Television Stations that can air the games, MBC Network and BET(BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION). We got the television part straight, know let get the major sponsor to make it happen and then let's get all four conferences to work together, SWAC, MEAC, CIAA, SIAC & the independents work together so that one day BCF can say that we have something that will make us money and not that playoff crap that does't benefit us!

Man we need to start winning championships and I am not talking about the Sheridan. If you compete on a national level then recruits will want to play for you and if you couple that with things like exposure NFL alumni etc... then we will really make some noise.GSU is the only respected school in the SWAC right now because of What Doug has been able to accomplish.
