????? FOR THE BOOM

JSU usually plays a ballad at the Southern Heritage Classic such as "Our Love" by Natalie Cole or "Have You Seen Her" by the Chi-Lites. What happened to the ballad this year?

Sounds like JSU has lost it's idenity on those clips! They sound a lot like Southern.

I beg to differ. They are back closer to the Taylor edginess, which is a move in the right direction. The sound is a lot cleaner this year.

Besides, you would never hear the Jukes piccs killing Stars and Stripes at that volume from across the field.

Notice the visual effects on the marches: there are none! No huffing and puffing...no spacial opening of the rib cage to get only 3% more air...no overblowing...just clean, clear sound.

THAT is the signature of the Boom.

So basically you want to nit pick at SU and want them to sound like your ideal band and if they don't they are doing everything wrong.. But you hear a few piccs on a few marches from JSU, trumpets still hanging over, blowing like they think they are SU, and JSU is all find and dandy? You are a trip bruh. I respect your mind though...

My ideal band is The President's Own Marine Band...just for the record. If you can find a college marching band that sounds like them, then I will love that college band - whoever they are. I have not heard that college band yet in my 44 years of living. Yes, I want the Boom to have that as a goal and to achieve it.

I'm not picking at SU. Please forgive me if I gave that kind of vibe. What I was trying to do is celebrate the sound of the Boom. Clean, crisp, and round. I want the pop tunes to be played the same way. In the other clips of them playing popular stuff, they huffed and puffed, and blew snot through their horns just like most other bands try to do today. My challenge is to use the same techniques to produce great sound regardless to the genre. That takes teaching, discipline, and attention to detail. If I we Liddell, I would show the clips back-to-back and has the brass players why they think they have to spend so much energy playing the popular tunes only to generate lesser sound quality.

The Jukes have their instrumentation the way they like it. Since I am not the director, nothing I say is going to change that. SU may feel free to keep their signature. It servestheir purposes. My statement about the piccs in the previous post is one that you have agreed with in the past. I'm sticking with my guns.

The fact is that Stars and Stripes is that standard that I use to measure every marching band. I don't care how many popular tunes any band plays, how they are arranged, nor how well they are executed: How well you play The Stars and Stripes Forever will tell me what I need to know about the musicianship of your marching band. And that is really the bottom line for me.

 It's about time!

The Boom I fell in love with was a lot more laid back, smooth and JAZZY. I see that recently(since 2001).... They are more Southernish lately, and I don't like it.

As far as using Stars and Stripes Forever as a standard ground for judging marching bands..... You might as well squash every HBCU band EXCEPT FAMU. They are the only black college band who effectively executes on marches, hands down, no arguments.

I haven't heard the Boom this year but I know the past few years, I have never heard the Boom's mellaphones (at least not out of control), they weren't the best section in the band to say the least, but the Boom never really just sounds bad no to me at least (other than the trumpets hanging over).

The mellos, the brassy sound, the aggression....... The Boom from the days of yore reminds me of Dr. Greggs, and anyone who has met Doc knows what I mean.

Big thumbs up on those mellos though. Maybe now them Mellow Fellows might could maybe possibly almost have sorta kinda a lil bit of competition.

They're just glad to see the Big 3 down. Misery loves company I say. Let these SWAC powerhouse wanna be's have their fun for ONCE in their lives. The Big 3 will rise to the top again SOON!!!!

you jstate OLD HEADS need to STFU and Sit down.( you think you know alot and don't).

For those that never attend a BIG GAME.

How many times have JSU played for the Vistors Side or Press BOX and recieve Little house but took a lot of heat from students and supporters.( some pay for tickets to come and see JSU band) LOYAL FANS. My ticket didnt tell me to go to the Vistors side to see my home band perform.

excuse me BUT TENN ST is not a JSU supporter.
IN 1995 - 2006 there have been some HALFTIME SHOWS played to HOME SIDE FOR TV but ask yourself HOW MUCH HOUSE DO YOU REALLY GET?

if any.........

and it has nothing to do with drills/designs, it has a lot to do with fanbase

for me: watching halftime on TV is not the same as being LIVE. The camera cant catch everything at one time like your eye can.

JSU got house from the DM entrance to the end of the their show.( the Jaycettes even rec little house for that simple ass show they did)

I see why alot of yall talking about how the jaycettes performed.
Trust if they are playing someone worth dancing against they will be on their **** and best routine.

I mean TNSU girls are no DANCING DOLLS(su), GOLDEN GIRLS(asu).

point blank all the rest of the majorettes are NOT COMPETITIVE NOR WORTH TALKING ABOUT.:lecture:

That would be a good strategy.... Also, get some real arrangements and stop letting students write so much..... Just my opinions.... Oh! More opinions: don't play Nobody Does It Better or Under Pressure in the 5th quarter..... Or Golden Time of Day. Love the songs, just tired of them cuz yall have played them, with the exception of GToD, for the past 4 YEARS in the 5th....

along with all the same old **** Yall play since 10 years.

even had the nerve to Pull out TWISTED but you calling us OLD.

excuse me but that was 1996?

YOU MENTION ALL THOSE SONGS WHICH YOUR BAND CAN'T BEAT.
hell they can play Nobody does it better and you dont have a song to compare nor compete with it.:saw:

YALL PEOPLE ARE SO FULL OF ****.

NOW IF JSU PLAYED A BALLAD FOR halftime then your responses will be on here yall could have played something else in place of that long ballad or you could have chose another song in place of that ballad.

 WE are JSU.

YOU ARE WHAT EVER THE **** SCHOOL YOU ARE.:kaioken:
