BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB football is coming back, a source close to the situation told ESPN.

Only six months after president Ray Watts announced that football would be terminated, the school has decided to reinstate the program. The move comes after an overwhelming public outcry, a strong showing of monetary support and a new school-commissioned study examining the financial ramifications of supporting the three programs.

All those death threats the president got... He couldnt even attend UAB basketball games..... He just set UAB football program back YEARS... and he will still probably have to step down.

Glad to hear they have been reinstated. I have been following this one. Yea...ole boy better leave Birmingham in the Pope-Mobile.
 
I don't have to read behind the scenes to realize what is going on with this situation...there are bigger things going on behind the scenes pulling strings to ensure nothing and absolutely nothing will take away from that other school that is further to the southwest...this world can be so cruel sometimes but it is what is.
 
Can the players that left transfer back and be immediately eligible? I know we got one of them. I assume the NCAA could issue a waiver of some sort.

Has it been stated that UAB is coming back THIS year? I know a lot of schools already have teams scheduled for this year.

I agree that the SWAC won't happen. UAB's best bet is to play 2 years as an FCS independent and then move to the Sun Belt.

Also, I just don't see their attendance numbers jumping too far.

Their program was on the rise the last 2 or 3 years. That's what made so many of their supporters/students so upset. Why kill a growing entity?

Paul Bryant Jr. wanted that program completely off the books.

I think the Sun Belt will give them 2 in state rivals - Troy and USA in all sports.
 
I bet South Alabama and Troy were enjoying not having UAB there as a roadblock for in-state recruits.
 
UAB just pulled some crackish behavior with that move! Why kill the program then bring it back 6 months later?

There are SOME (administration) that wanted it to fail but there were MORE(fans, students & alums) that wanted to see it succeed.

never will happen.... UAB isn't leaving Conference USA.... thats the reason they brought back football.... they didn't do their homework and realize they were getting kicked out of CUSA without a football program.
