Felon arrested in McNair's death
The Associated Press • July 17, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Associated Press has learned that federal agents have a convicted felon under arrest for providing the gun later used to kill ex-NFL quarterback Steve McNair.

Two law enforcement officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case, say the suspect has been arrested by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Federal prosecutors in Nashville plan to announce the charges at a press conference later Friday.

What difference does this make if it is his wife's fault he's dead? Right, delock?

Steve McNair's estate left in limbo
Lack of a will may lead to legal fight
By Chris Echegaray • THE TENNESSEAN • July 17, 2009

The family of at least one of Steve McNair's sons born before his marriage is gearing up to lay claim to an inheritance, a move that could set up a lengthy legal battle because the former Titans quarterback left no will.

Mechelle McNair's Nashville attorney, David Callahan, said Thursday she's determining Steve McNair's net worth. A Davidson County probate court judge granted the widow 60 days to complete that process in response to an emergency petition. In the meantime, she received the right to control the estate.

"I am sure that in due course there will be a discussion with everyone who has an interest in the estate," Callahan said. "At this point, there has not been any formal discussion."

The probate court filing says Mechelle McNair and sons Tyler, 11, and Trenton, 6, are heirs, but she can't confirm whether her husband's two eldest sons are actually his.

McNair's oldest son, Steven L. McNair Jr., is a senior and star wide receiver at Oak Grove High in Hattiesburg, Miss. His second son, Steven O'Brian Koran McNair, 15, lives in Mount Olive, Miss.

"He gave $500 a month for child support," said Cora McNair, the 15-year-old's grandmother and no relation to Steve McNair. "We don't know what's going on and don't know if he was entitled to anything. They need to get on board with this."

Cotina Feazell, the mother of McNair's oldest son, referred questions to Bus Cook, who was McNair's agent. Cook cited attorney-client privilege when asked about possible wills or trusts left behind by his client. No records have surfaced indicating McNair — who earned more than $75 million in NFL contracts over his 13-year career — set up trust funds or completed any estate planning.

Sports agents shocked
Sports agents said they were incredulous McNair didn't leave a will. Typically, an NFL contract comes with trips to financial planners to protect the new wealth, said Steve Piascik, a financial planner for pro athletes and a registered financial adviser with the NFL Players Association.

"The first thing we talk about is a budget, an annual budget, with our clients," said Piascik, whose office is in Richmond, Va. "We get them estate attorneys who are part of the money management team. My job is to protect them and save them money.

"This is a great example for some guys who don't think they need life insurance or a will … because a whole family can be rocked by a death."

I can understand not having a will but I CAN'T understand not having life insurance. Even for my house, I get life insurance requests every month. Even if Steve did not have the sense to get life insurance, I would have hoped that Mechelle would. Even before I got my house, my wife and I got life insurance. In fact, the month after we got married we got life and burial insurance. Of course, we had people in our lives who advised us to do it, but I can't believe the McNair's didn't.

that did leave me scratching my head. :scared:

and it seemed like Granny was satisfied with it.

This may have been prior to him getting into the league. Were these kids born before he left Alcorn? Well looking at their ages there were born before he left Alcorn so that may be the reason for the $500 a month payments. Hopefully he was providing more than that for his sons.

Looks like McNair may have had one of those kids by his 3rd or 4th cousin... lol you know how peeps do in the country. But in terms of the $500 a month. I don't care if they were born before Alcorn or not, as soon as he got drafted, those women had the right to take him back to court and get more money. He must have been taking care of them with some additional checks because I can't see a black woman accepting $500 from a millionaire. Women don't want to accept $500 a month from an average man.

Itz not just a BLACK WOMAN thing dear. A white woman would NOT accept $500 a month from a rich man either. y'all black men, I tell ya.

You shole is right!

I bet the felon (Adrian J. Gilliam Jr.) was sick to death when the reports came out that ole girl shot/killed McNair with a gun she purchased two days earlier in a Dave & Busters parking lot!!!

:shame:

I sholl hope so.

McNair's kids were not driving Bentley's but none of them ever wanted for anything.
The reason Granny didn't make a big deal out of $500 a month was because McNair was providing everything they needed so it was no big deal.
Now that he is gone, those expenses still has to be taken car of.

When McNair's son that play's football was talking about where he wanted to go to school and play football, MONEY was not even an issue.
Both Steve and his brother Fred said the kid is just following his own path and might not want the pressure of being his daddy's son on Alcorn's campus so it's not like McNair was not a daddy to all four.

BTW:
The felon that sold that girl the gun is toast.
That mofo is never walking out of a Tennessee jail.
He might end up getting more years than Bernie Maddoff.

This gets sadder and sadder. :smh: :smh: $500/month and this man made over $75 million over his career. I don't care what expenses he took care of....I bet those people are left without those expenses being taken care of now. If the oldest children's mothers had done things the right way by making sure their kids had trust funds and proper child support they wouldn't be sitting wondering what is going to happen. Maybe that would have prompted someone to get Steve to draw up a will.

:read:
Can this dude rest in peace? Steve didn't do this, Steve did that. That was his business. People need to make sure that their own house is in order. The Lord will make sure this situation will turn out the way he wants it to happen.

A3, please. :smh: Steve's actions made sure nobody else rested in peace so... Y'all really shouldn't click on topics you can't handle. It only pisses you off.

I mean dayum, now people are talking about the amount of child support the dude was paying. At least he paid that. I know some ninja's out here that aren't paying anything. I'm not pissed off at anything, because I didn't/don't have to answer for Steve. Steve has to answer to the Lord for his actions. Whatever that dude did, it was his business! Case closed! I'm pretty sure all the stuff he did WILL NOT have a affect on anyone on this board. Just like Steve didn't have to deal with any of our issues. People are acting as if Steve cheated on them or didn't pay them enough child support.

Why are you so concerned about our opinions? Read and keep it moving.
