Fellas, whats a reasonable amount to spend on an engagement ring

Bruh, when you say "I DO," you'll be spending 10x that amt. lol

I've purchased 2 engagement rings in life and I think that first one was ~2500 or so and the one for the then wife was 5800 before she started asking for mods on that bad boy. When it was said and done, it was just shy of 8K (I stole it from her before I divorced :emlaugh: :bawling: :emlaugh: ). I recalled bytching a lil' bit about it and telling her I could've bought a new motorcycle and then had my '67 chevy re-painted for that amt of $$$$. :emlaugh: I guess it was worth it though (the smile on her face).

A shame! :smh: And glad you admit that you STOLE it.

Critt... actually, I was holding that ring hostage. Just before she got really ridiculous w/ her wants, her atty said that she was going after one of my tractors in the final settlement and that pissed me off royally because she paid for absolutely n=o=t=h=i=n=g regarding that farm eqpt and didn't even know what all I had down south, so what right did she think she had to it? Also, that engagement ring was replaced w/ one that cost thrice, yes ma'am, 3X that funky 7800 something dollars and po' ol' broke Panther88 paid for that bad boy some 4 years prior w/ a BIG smile on my face. :| So, I went for the jugular vein just like she did and I slipped that ring and she didn't miss it until ~8 or so mos after the final decree. By then, I had plans for it since Kay Jewelers gave me a credit for actual value for it on that plan I purchased it under (actual value credit), so... if I do say "I DO" in the future, you can best believe that what I'm spending for the new one will cost @ least 8K$+, starting. :)

Goodness.

You don't have too. If yall get more expensive as we age before marriage. one can only imagine what those request become after marriage.

you guys NEED to. From many of your answers...a clue is what you don't have.

BTW, invite me to the wedding. I want to see the 10K ring up close. NEVER SAY NEVER TO A WOMAN. :lmao:

While I'm ranting. I don't think you can put a $$$ value on what a woman wants when a man decides to purchase. I think that what she's looking for is the transition from being a selfish bachelor to being selfless. Can't be driving a Benzo and have assets while the woman sports a funky assed 1K$ ring. lol That's pretty selfish. lol I think when one becomes selfless, one becomes very humbled and is willing to put that other party @ the forefront, in terms of making them happy and comfortable. I think that's what a woman wants to feel more than the cost deal. If it's otherwise, she's a money-grubbing materilastic woman who has materialism as priority zero that a man should distance himself from as quickly as possible.

Typical.... But my point is, I wouldn't buy anyone a 39.99 ring, but a person would be a fool to buy a 5500-10,000 ring for a marriage in 2011. Shyt they ain't even lasting 5 years these days. Now I could see a good ring around 1500-2500, then if you make it to 10 years get you that fat 7000 ring. Folks wonder why marriages ain't lasting, you putting everything up front and not having anything to look forward to for the golden years. Cats making 50K-70K spending 10K on a ring. Shyt you are a fool.

Believe it or not, we are on the same page. I don't have a timeframe per se, but the thought is that the ring can be upgraded later if we feel like it. I didn't spend anywhere near $5,500-$10,000 for the ring, but I didn't spend $39.99 either :shame:

I never said that a man should break himself on a ring, but he can't go the cheap route either in this day and age. Also, based on the "other" folks that I see at work and elsewhere, their rings aren't low-cost either for the most part. Now what I do caution people against is overspending for the wedding and reception. You know that some of "us" will show up, eat all the food, and then won't even bring a gift.

Goodness.

CT,
If I buy a 10k, you will definitely be eating Doritos and nuts at the reception but that will never happen so no worries.

Now ask yourself:::

How important is that ring that you bought means to you Lmao
and her, do u think after your 2 pumps and a grind, she'll think about how lovely that ring is on her finger is Lmfao so hard

shat is all-hype

39.99 ring here I come LOL

Seriously? A ring says all that?

Not paying bills, taking care of home and family, but a ring? Really? A ring? Not a house. We're talking about a ring? Not treating her right and being faithful, but a ring? The value of the ring tells you how a man feels about a woman?

This is the reality of what happens AFTER the wedding and honeymoon.......paying bills, for some paying off the cost of the wedding, possibly trying to buy a home and/or car, saving/investing for children, trips, investments. If I were to ever get married, I'd want my intended to talk with me about our future plans and we'd need to establish what we want to have for our future together. If we agree about those things needed for the future, then the cost of the ring, for me, would be as minimal as possible.

The ring is merely a symbol............the fact that one is actually given says how a man feels about his woman.

Man you adding scenarios but honestly with the daughter thing... I'd judge that young man based on much more than that Wal-mart ring. I know a lot of assholes who've spent a grip on rings.

And most who spend a small fortune on a ring aren't married to this day.
