Fellas, at what age should one be expected to mature?

Loyalty & Respect
A spinoff from a few other threads on here and reflection on my experience this past weekend at HC. Was hanging with a lot of cats I went to undergrad with and it became apparent that I really couldn't rock with a few of them that tough because our mindsets were in different places.

They were still acting the way we did in Undergrad and interested in doing the same stuff we did in undergrad. At some point, some of that stuff has got to become old right? I mean had a lot of fun doing some of that stuff at 22, but at 30?

I guess it really depends on what you do and don't consider mature. As long as it's nothing illegal or could jeopardized your career, marriage, etc I really don't have a problem with it. Although I'm in my 30s, I still feel like I'm 20 and actually like being around youngsters that age. I know a group of professional women in their mid-to-late 40s who live life to the fullest. If there is a social event or gathering you can count on them being there enjoying themselves. Hell I'm jealous of them and hope I'm like that when I hit that age.

In this case, talking more behavior than anything. Cats still want to say loud random shit to women, try to punk people and smoke weed in the club.

Those are what you call nikkers. They never grow out of that. lol I think after 28 you should be on a different out look in life. Now me and my boys still go hard when we hook up, but that's kicking it hard not ignorant stuff. It still baffles me when 30 year old men still trying to fight. I think its more to prove something to themselves is what its about. Low self-esteem runs rampant among black males. This is why we have so many problems in our community. Nothing worst then a 30 year old man still holding on to things that happened in high school and college.

After I graduated from college that was a wrap for me. I go to homecoming and this past homecoming I got home Saturday night at 11 pm. I was more concerned about not missing church. Friday night I chilled with the frat and interestingly a number of us paid for our wives and ladies to go to the Erykah Badu concert so we ended up chilling at a NUPE's tailgate eating fish having some drinks laughing.

Sometimes you just grow out of that bullshit. Yet, some guys will never grow out of it.

Now I would have got the hell away from them real quick. Weak mofos are going to mess around and get shot trying to punk folks in the street. And loud talking somebody's women will get you mucked up as well.

It makes a difference if they or married or not also. When I was single, I was owt. I have been married for almost twelve years now also with two kids, so my priorites are different. Your priorites are different than your friends that you were with at homecoming.

It sincerely has to suck to be mentally immature a vast majority of life. I'm cut from a differing cloth that was more serious about life and all life had to offer so I chose to speak w/ and draw as much knowledge and wisdom from elders as I could, as well as live a stress-free lifestyle(no gulfriends lol). The message I try my best to convey to younger teen males now, today, is play-time is over. You seriously need to grow the *F* up before you find yourself doing the same stupid shat you currently see so many other younger men doing w/ nothing to offer their community or family. I tell them they need to establish a STOLID foundation right now this very second if they desire any semblance of success in their future. I was a full-blown grown man @ 14 yrs young. I expect other young men under my voice to be and do likewise. Especially these in the 92+% anglo dominated suburb environmentS-plural smh.

Exactly!!!!

It's ok to have fun but there comes a time and place where maturity plays a role in the decisions you make.

Man folks be turned all the way up.. They're trying to relive those days man...LOL The rent is to dayum high Pops escape with them. For one weekend you get a chance to relive those days. You see folks going way to hard too. I also notice the same folks each year. I only go back every two years or so but from photos some folks there every year... Those were some good days but no need to be there every year out like that. I mean out...If you do make it about the family, kids and the experience not about hooking up and being a 18year old again.....

Another thing is I notice that some people can't let their undergrad glory go. There are a few in every frat, on every sports team and org on the yard pretty much.
The Ques have it the worst. I'm surprised one of them cats ain't got popped or hurt the way they come back harassing the grad school cats. I understand loving your frat but most of that shyt is to ignorant to be running up on grown men like that. Couldn't be me I would end it all by clearing the spot out to send a message. Some of them dudes act tough knowing they ain't got no hard without the bruhs.

I know folks in there late 30s-early 40s who still club religiously. I can't do it. I gave that up years ago.

I have learned to enjoy life. My boys and I try to get together as much as possible. Although we all live in different cities we kick it hard when we do hook up. Life is to short. Folks are dropping dead younger everyday. I was really sad to hear one of my boys I marched with died last week. I always looked forward to hollering at him at the classic every year. That's really the only time I saw him. This is why I try to make it to make as many games as possible because you never know the last time you will see your friends and family. I love my family, but my peers are just as important to me. They all shaped or played apart in my life some how. I will always remember the days of going back and forth between the Bham folks and Gump folks about Atl bands and their bands. I can never turn back the hands of time, but I can forever Cherish the memories of my young adult life. I guess I see it differently then most folks. I come from the gutter, where most of my childhood friends are doing 30 to life or got killed in the streets so I am thankful I made it to see my 40's because getting in the wrong car or being on the block at the wrong time and it could have been me. Instead my life took a different path. I don't come from college educated folks. I come from hustler's, drug dealers and killers. So anytime I get a chance to enjoy being around educated folks I love it.

Especially the ones that still try to perform in the undergrad step shows. I understand a stroll or two, but some mofos being doing full blown step shows. Mofos are in their mid to late 30s.

40's too. Lol Man ain't nothing worse then a 45 year old Greek freak. Lol

I'll use video games as an example because there are some people depending on their age. Think that if you're 30 and up and still playing them then they would consider you immature. But to me as long as you are handling your responsiblities. Like any hobby there is nothing wrong with playing video games at any age. Now if you if 30 plus and playing video games all day with no job and you're basically a grown child not handling whats important. Then you have a problem.
