FCS Attendance Week Ending 12/08/12

Seriously dude you gotta be kidding right? Even black folks don't wanna go to HBCUs. Reality is the truth. This is not a racial point of view but the truth. Yes we will get a couple of white kids, but how can you get white kids who are good when the black ones don't wanna attend? Answer that for then?

So in other words you can't answer the question? Why is it that FAMU didn't need white plyaers to be successful? I think your post history with the whole race thing speaks for itself. My point was they didn't need them to field a good team..how many ways do I have to say it? The teams just aren't good, period. And you can't even use the HBCU excuse here because again, the MEAC is more competitive than the SWAC is and they are HBCU's too. Norfolk just beat Liberty this year who were Big South co champs. You're so busy trying to make excuses that you're missing the obvious point. Why is it that other FCS conferences don't struggle with D2's the way the SWAC does? The MEAC included. Why is it that WSSU, who is an HBCU, is playing in the D2 national championship game? You do realize they had to beat white schools to get there right...and with black players. SMH

Those are very good points that a lot of people overlook these days. Other than certain skill positions (mainly WR) no 4-5 star athlete even has an HBCU on their radar.... until they mess up at the big school they spurned the HBCU point. I think everyone knows this. Same for the non-athlete,.

And you think this ONLY applies to HBCU's? I mean seriously how many 4-5 star players would say, a Coastal Carolina have on their team? Yall are acting like these schools have top 25 recruiting classes or something lol. It basically seems like in yall mind there is no possible way for you to be any better. I mean this whole woe as me movement doesn't seem to be affecting Tenn State, WSSU, BCU and some others. How does not getting white players cause you not to be able to compete with D-2's though?

Let me give you a response...
OK... WSSU was 1-10 in the MEAC in had to go down.. Jackson state beat Delta State.. They can recruit different (for some odd reason this advantage is only a advantage against the SWAC).
No One has answer the Question at Hand yet, Which is "Is it that far fetched that we can never be like WSSU in be playing national Championship and Us building a Squid to play in the national championship like WSSU is harder then putting ablack president in the white house

Good questions CEE.

Before any would attempt to answer any of them, my ONLY question in the matter is <b>"did you try (to recruit ANY of them)? the 4/5 star anglos/blacks?"</b> If you didn't try and start that woe is me bullshit, then, we have the SWAC being what it is today from top to bottom - uncompetitive OOC. I guess I'm really funny about stuff like that. I don't see "skin" tone. I see playing ability and grades and show no other allegiance to anything but those attrs. If you're best available, I would think any school in their right mind would make an offer to secure (sway) them to their campus. That's what aTm does lol. That's what funky ut-austin does. That's what OU does. That's what OregonU does. So, why doesn't and why DIDN'T PVAMU employ the EXACT same mentality for success to go after the BEST available? They had a defeatist attitude before they even looked @ solving the problem. :smh: (past tense)

There are CERTAIN high schools I'll be looking for on PV's recruitment roster Feb/2013. If they're not there and I see some from these all-mostly-black segregated high schools in texas, I have no choice but to assume that PV is satisified w/ the status quo and desires to be mediocre while fielding a subpar product on the field of play. :|

There is not 1 answer to why SWAC schools are struggling against out of conference FCS schools. Keep in mind that sometimes these PWC are playing with 22 black players. It is also true that we should not be losing to D-2 programs. This has been happening more frequent in this conference than other FCS conferences. It would be interesting to research who schedules the most D-2 schools over the last 10 years in all of the FCS. There are several components that come into play in assessing the SWAC's out of conferences woes. We need better: 1) Recruiting 2)Coaching 3) More money/fund raising. It amazes me that the latter is not recognized in this kind of conversation although it is not the only component. Let's look at a few extreme approximation of budget difference from the USA today.

Appalachian State 17million
Jackson State 7 million

Montana State 23 million
Alabama State 10 million

Coastal Carolina 18 million
Arkansas Pine Bluff 9 million

Lamar U 13 million
Mississippi Valley 4 million

Montana State 20 million
Southern U 7 million

Prairie View 10 million
Stephen F Austin 14 million

William & Mary 22 million
AAMU 6 million

I can't agree with you there. The MEAC does struggle with D2s. I don't see where they are any better than we are. As for NSU and Liberty, don't know what happened there but NSU sucked this year. ASU would have beat them. They only lead in the Disney Classic because of the matchups. IF it were champ vs champ, it would be a lot more even or the SWAC would have the lead.

I wish Winston-Salem would run their azz down here.

They think that becasue they are scared of WSSU, that we should be scared too... NOT! I would have love to have seen what our D-line would have done to those rooty poots this year.

Um, for the record the top 8 schools in attendance are PWC's. Kinda kills the rest of your argument.

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2012/Internet/attendance/FCS_AVGATTENDANCE.pdf

Out of the top 25 in average attendance 8 are HBCU's so, that means 17 are PWC's.

JSU, Gramling and SU are down this year and SU been down a few years. LOL Every year is not going to be the same. but there are 100 PWCs playing FCS Football and only 22 HBCUs. Yet 1/3 of that 22 is in the top 25. We know we have some HBCUs who can't draw flies but we have more PWCs who can't. If some of our biggest games were back on Campus, that would move those numbers up and more in line to that of the top 8. AAMU-ASU, GSU-SU, FAMU-BCU, FAMU-SU, etc.. are not included in these numbers.

Dude when FAMU won the championship black kids that chose the SEC went to HBCU's. Kids like Steve Mcnair would never chose the SWAC now. WSSU has 21 transfers. If AAMU got 21 transfers we would be APR toast. You don't wanna see the truth, you just enjoy seeing things in rose colored glasses.

If Gram recruited 21 FBS transfers like WSSU, your team would be on APR for 3 years. Now you have your answer stop telling yourself a lie that we can recruit like WSSU.

BTW, The Super Dome is a 2nd home designation for Southern U. The final attendance numbers for this season will not come out until next year. If they are done correctly, Southern's final home average should be about 22,478 which would put us in the top 5 of the NCAA attendance numbers. Marion Casem, former AD always made sure that those numbers were included when Southern was the home team in the BC.

Now compare these D2 schools that we are struggling with to our Budgets..
Now I know first hand that sometimes, as matter of fact a lot of Times its not about the money.. Total budgets are miss leading... Then when you look at budgets you have to take in account the management of the Budgets. See some people can turn .15 cent into a Dollar.. Our Folks going to turn a dollar into .15 cent.
See How many of our Coaches are Recruiting Early? Are we recruiting seniors or Juniors.. I know for Fact that our coaches recruit Seniors meaning we 2 years behind the curve. Tell me how many Verbals does your school have? second, as a hold Black folk behind in Technology.. I Know for Fact our Coaches "Watch" film not "break Film Down" and "Study" it..
Ill Use our coach that some say is Great.. Listen to his Interviews, how many times did he say we look a the upcoming team today? every Week, How the hell do you come up with a game Plan in 3 Days????? In I know for fact thats what he Does... But why aint we breaking Film down 2 weeks outs, and then comfirming the Week of?
and like someone said. we dont have any vision for our programs, other then Winning SWAC, and thats what we have settled for

Please be my guess and post D-2 budgets to substantiate your contention. As I stated, budgets is only one component (noticed you highlighted it). However, I think you're crazy if you believe HBCU programs should receive less money and do more with it. You try working for less than your colleagues and see if you're able to enjoy the same luxuries as they do. :emlaugh:

Broussard already said SU would finish in the top 5 when the new numbers were released :) .

There is hardly any "woe is me" mentality that I am seeing from people who are providing reasonable responses/points/solutions as compared to the whining some of yall are doing and just looking for any reason to complain.

The energy yall are using to put characters on this forum could be used to help your respective schools out. Yeah the coaching is less to be desired but sitting on here and boo hooing does nothing. The MEAC/Tennessee State should not be mentioned by any pro playoff person. When they can win a playoff game or not get skull drugged by the 1-2 seed then you might have a point. As many have said, going to the playoffs just to be going makes no sense. My plan, if the SWAC keeps the SCG but goes to a 7 game mandate, would be to schedule 1-2 FCS opponents, 1 money game (but not against a Top 10 team) and maybe a competitive D2 school (for us DSU). Prove yourself over a period of time against these schools (5 year plan) and not just say "Hey we are in the playoffs and you are not" and try to look down at the SWAC when you are getting hazed like a pledge when you get there (MEAC). WSSU. Ha. Next (others have explained their situation)

I said 4-5 star... but I'll be more realisitc and say 2,, maybe 3 star. As stated in my OP and what Cee brought up, if a 2 star athlete (or a top 10% of their class student) won't even consider an HBCU and would rather go JUCO or try to walk on somewhere else than stand a chance at getting some starting time at a HBCU... how can you convince a 2-3 star lineman to come here?

Uh, FAMU won playoff games in the late 90s, nice try though. And every D2 team has transfers, yet WSSU is in the championship game. Doesn't really matter what players you have if you don't know what to do with them. Having kept a coach like Anthony Jones on the payroll for as long as you have you should know that by now. And transfers or not, you still shouldnt lose to a D2, period.

If you play a better brand of football you wouldn't have to convince them. But when all you have to look forward to as a player are classics and the SCG then well...good luck trying to even the playing field.

Um Steve Mcnair played in the 90's. JSU had three first round draft picks in 98........
